Question Why do folks 275/40/17 and 275/45/17??

im lookin to get new tires and see alot of sales that are for 4 tires in this configuration..... (most of these i have seen this way are on ebay) Also seen this config in my newest HHP mag (the "free" red 75 article)

2 tires 275/40/17 (rear)
2 tires 275/45/17 (front)

i guess im just confused why you would put a taller tire in the front? Am i backwards in thinking that the 45 is taller than the 40? Are there any advantages/disadvantages to doing this?

im stock ride height and such,,,and stock rims.

A 245/45 is around the same height as a 275/40R17. People put them on the front to have the little/big look.

Gotcha, so the tires on the front ARE actually smaller than the stocker size in the rear,,right?
