I can't find the exact camera anymore, but I have a Fuji 7.1 MP camera that I picked up 2 years ago, and it takes pretty good pictures. I picked it up for about $180 at the time (on clearance), and have never had a problem with it. I really wanted a camera that had a decent optical zoom that didn't cost a fortune, and this one fit the bill (10X optical zoom). I've never used it for video though, so I can't/won't say anything about the Fuji on that aspect.

I'm sure there are more experienced photographers out there that will have better suggestions, but for the money I spent, I'm very satisfied.

Just do a search on ebay.....get one that is atleast 6mp, you want atleast 3x OPTICAL zoom (keeps picture quality), and unlimited video recording time, also try to get one with a rechargable battery because buying batteries gets old!

Hope that helps.

Both of these are around your price range and seem to be more than capable of providing what your looking for. If it were me i would get the sony.

Probably the best bang for the buck would be a Canon Powershot 770 or 790, they are just a little bit over $200, but they are worth it. 10MP, 3X zoom, 30 frames per second movie clips, and if you have a little shake at all the image stabilization pays for every dime you spend on the camera. I can literally be waving my camera, snap a picture, and it is as clear as if you had it on a tri-pod. I don't have steady hands at all, so I love this feature. Also has neat options like color accent, where you shoot a color, then take a picture and everything is in black an white except for the color you select. It also has color swap, and you pick two colors and take a picture and everything that is one of the colors becomes the other color.

This is a pic of the color accent feature.

And this is one of my favorite pics using it.

I got the one before that, (sd1000). It's so tiny i can put it in my pocket. That's why i bought it. I am sure there are much better cameras out there for that price though. I just bought it cuz it was small and can take really good pictures for what it is.

The sd1100 has image stabilization i think, which is much better. Don't pick a camera based on mega pixels, it doesn't mean as much as you think. Make sure you get one that has IS.

Just read the reviews.

The only thing I recommend is getting rechargeable batterys regular batterys it eats through but my rechargable ones I can take about 45 min worth of vid before it beeps they are low

I love my Cannon I just picked up from Costco for around $200. I took this video of me and my brother racing with it. Remember to click on "watch in high quality" to see the full potential of the camera.

I bought my wife a Canon Powershot 770 for $150 new from Office Depot during a sale last year. It's a decent camera, does a good job with point and shoot and 640x480 x 30fps video. It would most definitely fit the bill. The only issue we have with it is that the lens protector doesn't always close properly so it beeps and gives us "lens error" when turning off some times.
