Default JOE SCHUBECK LIFTERS "WHO'S USING THEM" NEED HELP!!!!

I bought a set of these lifters and just cant get them right, I have been through 3 sets of different length pushrods, I have shimmed the rocker sets 3 times but I cannot get these things right...The closes I have came was using a 7.350 pushrod and shimmed the jessel non adj rocker .015 and it ran fine up until WOT at 6400 rpms then it would just hit a wall..Can someone explain to me what the deal is with these lifters? I am calling him tomorrow but I was wondering what you guy's did to make these work...My heads are milled .030

Can someone chime in please and let ,me know before we have to tear this motor down and go back to the crains or comp r's....

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it would be in your best interest to get adjustable rockers, those lifters like virtually no preload. If you move to Comp R's, remember, they like no more than .010 preload...

I'm moving in that direction so far, I'm thinking of D-Shimming these and going with the new adjustables and keeping the 7.350 pushrods and adj. accordingly as I don't really want to tear this motor down just to replace these lifters...

Anyone else care to chime in that's used these lifters before....I'm thinking BIG MIKE and Jason99T/A also went with these....

I've used similar lifters. (Shermans)
You really need adjustable rockers like Dan said. .010 cold is what I've used & it seems to work fine. (that's just under 1/4 turn preload)

i have almost the exact same problem... i have T&D Adj with 93s sherman lifters... i run a 7.25 pushrod to get the install correct for the T&Ds i peaked at 64-6500 then by 7k i was down a 100hp... i think the problem is hanging valves at high RPM because when u set them they have bled down... im gonna try having .010 lash in mine see if that helps... but without doing the lash yet, tuning was another big deal... I was able to start my power earlier and then carry it to 6700~ but still did the same drop off...

i have 977 springs i know it isnt valve float

I run a TSP 231/237 CAM... Lunati no idea what the base circle is on mine

How much lifter preload are you supposed to run with them?

What is the base circle of the camshaft?

Thanks Terry but I was looking for someone who has actually used these as I want to keep them and make them work so I don't have to tear this thing down again, hopefully I can just buy some adj rockers and adj them to a nats *** and get the rpm I'm looking for at the 7000 mark...

Small cam 229/591

Preload is .010 to .012

They are tricky to setup.
That's the problem I see with them.
Hanging the valves open....& power dropping off.
I adjusted a set a while ago on an LS1 & the car gained 2mph in the 1/4.

As others have said, you really need adjustable rockers... I am running the Schubeck's w/ Jesel adjustables and a 7.35" pushrod, and it works just fine up through my 6800 RPM rev limiter. The lash is setup such that it is .001-.002 when hot, which is actually a little preloaded when cold.

The thing with them is that unless you have an extraodinarily aggressive cam (for a hydraulic), I doubt that they will buy you much. Other G5X2 cars out there seem to be at about the same power level as mine, without the super-duper valvetrain.

Thanks BurnOut, I was waiting to hear your story as I will be getting the adj. quick, Did you go with the sportsman set up by Jesel? I'm calling Joe today as I shimmed the non adj rockers and it just fell on its face right at 6400 and seemed to have some valves holding open...The curve was great then it just dropped right off...

I just don't want to have to buy the new jesel's and it not clear my problem up when I should have bought regular OEM replacement lifters and new pushrods...Its alot of work taking this engine apart again because of a minor problem as this...

BADZ- actually, I went with the super-duper MoHawk setup from Jesel, since they are the strongest rocker body available (from Jesel) for these motors... if, in the future, I decide to go SR, I don't want there to be a limitation on the spring pressure I can use. I think that the Sportsman setup from Jesel has a limitation there, but I am not sure what it is. You might want to call Jesel and find out before you shatter a rocker with stout springs.

I assume that you already have valvecover spacers or custom covers, right?? To clear even the non-adjustable Jesels?? You may want to consider the T&D rocker setup, as it's supposed to rival the MoHawks in strength (or so I've heard), but it's considerably cheaper (though more expensive than the Sportsman setup).

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
