Ok i am going to install my vig 3600 tomarrow and have been told i will need a tune. :bang:
Can i just delete some codes? Like at a local shop? Will it be safe to drive it?
I am installing a H/C in 2 months and dont want to have to waste money on a mail order tune for the stall if i can just delete some codes and wait till i get a dyno tune.

It's a little more than just codes thrown. I believe your shifts will be affected along with getting the TC to lock up.

You could always wait til the head/cam swap.
With the heads off, it will be VERY easy to reach the top two bolts(and all the others) on the bell housing.

True i might wait and do the H/C/I/E/stall all at the same time.... that way i can get one tune and be done with it.

Sounds like a smart idea to me..

VIG 3600 stall/(TSP) CNC Stg 2.5 5.3L heads/TSP 233-239 112LSA cam/Proted TB/LS6 Intake/OBX headers with custom duals....trying to break 420rwhp++++....will be saving for a 12 bolt or 8.5"(depending on how the 8.5" turns out!) after this build cuz that 10 bolt is gonna blow! lmao THEN shortly after a built 4l60E!

This is where im at right now. Constant unlocking/locking and shifts affected greatly. No codes though. Gas mileage is suffering. Car is a beast now though, such a huge damn difference. :chug:

With that high of a stall, you will need a dyno tune, for openers, the stock TC OD is around 12", where the Vig is 9 1/2", therefore right off the getgo, you need to raise your idle (pcm adjustment, not side of throttle body). Second, your shift points must be adjusted, and you will need to manipulate or totally delete the torque management system. You will probably experience the converter locking and unlocking, and setting alot of misfire codes, which in turn may setoff P1336, where your cam looses its relationship to the crank, if this happens you will be firing left to right bank instead of the normal firing order of the injectors. Overall, your gas milage and drivability will decrease.
I hope you installed a trans cooler.

How hard would it be for me to do the tuning myself????? I am thinking about buying a tuner/programer....wich one is the best?
O and yest i have a tranny cooler to go with the Stall....keep the temps down :D

Takes a lot of time, practice, and devotions...research all the info you can, read it all, then read it some more...

ive been running a 3900 with 0 adverse affects and absolutely no tuning. There are tons of people out there running an aftermarket TC without tuning. When people tune the A4 tranny they usually just delete tq management and sometimes raise the shift points a little. Please take advice from people as a grain of salt if they have never used the product in question.
I'm starting to get annoyed at the number of "Tech experts" who just spit out something they "read" somewhere.
PS: Tranny cooler is a good idea

The 00-02 model F-cars have codes that pop up when aftermarket stalls are installed causing the trans to go into limp mode. 98's have 1/2 as many codes in the PCM so really there are no codes to tune out for the trans for your car.

So since i have a 98 i will not need a tune because 98s have less shit in th pcm when i put a stall in.

Sorry to hijack bro, but I have a 3800 fuddle comming in but the car was already tuned by TSP. Need to retune or not? Shifts at 6200 and banging out at 6500

The transmission stays in 3rd til you reset the pcm

Yes and no... you won't have to get the solenoid codes tuned out as you would with a later model car but it still may need to have the shift points adjusted if its bouncing off the limiter. Also may be good to eliminate the torque management that backs off timing during the shifts as well as some other changes as the stall will tend to cushion and soften the shifts.
Overall it depends on the car... Some have zero problems after a stall others can't make it down the block without throwing codes or end up with some really sloppy shifts.

Yup and it sucks being in Limp mode!!! 3rd gear starts with a stall... talk about a loose feeling converter!
