Car is a 95 3800(not sure which trany the automatic was). Intermittent grining. Sometimes when you drive the car it's perfectly fine other times it constantly grinds...even in neutral.
What's going on here guys???? Please don't tell me I need a new trans. Also has an rpm flair on the 2 to 3 shift.

if the car is accelerating in neutral and its not the transmission, it must be possessed...
so i'd take it to a tranny shop or exorcist - pick your poison.

Your post is all sorts of confusing. Do you have a Auto or a Manual? One section you say Auto, then you mention a clutch???????????

I'm thinking the clutch might be bad becuase it has an RPM flair on the 2-3 shift when driven hard, indicating that the clutch could be worn out and not engaging into third gear quick enough causing the rpms to flair up.

I believe your confused on how an automatic transmission works. They do not have "a clutch" they have clutch packs, but I think your confused on how they work.
