Default Heater hose mod. What size heater hose??

Quick question. What size heater hose do i need?

I know pull the spring out, measure, or take it to auto zone, and slip it in, but the car is about 1 hr from me where i work on it, and autozone is a good 30 minutes or so from the car. So id like to pick it up on my way out there and get it done. Stock springs in the back, just want to get rid of the isolators to drop it that 1/2 inch, then get the coilovers in the front set to the right height and be done.

Thanks in advance.

Chris

3/4" ID, I'm almost 100% sure. I'll go check right now.

On the rears? I thought the rear springs had something around .485-.500 coil diameter.

Lightbulb

1/2" ID for a snug fit, 5/8"ID MAX for a easy fit.

3/4" ID is too big!

I tried the heater hose mod on my Moser 9 and sat to low and banged the body, but I also choped up a much bigger hose to do it.

Default Huh?

OK, I'll ask:

Chris, what's the Heater Hose Mod?

What purpose does it serve and how is it done?

(I'm sure I can't be the only one here wondering...)

You take the rear isolators out and it drops the rear of your car about an inch. So to keep from just putting the rear spring in the pocket you put a heater hose on the top coil.

Make since?

I had the heater hose mod (5/8") but I switched back to the isolators. The hose only dropped my car MAYBE 1/4" lower than the isolators. My car is on Sam's springs page and it has the isolators on. If that isn't low enough for you then you might need different springs...

Thanks guys i will pick up some 5/8's probably just to be sure..

As far as my car i am heavily geared toward drag racing, with very little to no use on the street. From the research ive done, the stock springs work great in the rear, so i am on stock springs in the rear, and a competition engineering drag shock in the back. Then in the front i run a strange drag coilover.

I took out the lowering springs i had on the car, but the stock springs are pretty high in the rear, and the heater hose mod is supposed to get you about 1/2 an inch which i think will be perfect.

Its not staying that low. No spring compressor. just got the stuff on, but couldn't really go any higher without a spring compressor.

The jack is ok. I got 2 of them, and 1 other crappy 20 yr old craftsman one. Makes jacking up cars much easier.

i know this might seem like a stupid question but why do you want the back end to sit about 1/2" lower without touching the front

Sorry off topic.

Am I missing something, didn't you just put threaded shocks on? Just spray so lube on the threads above/on the spring seat, then adjust the spring seat up with Coil-Over Spanner Wrench .
IMO, adjust it up around 1/2" to 5/8", for every 1" you want to adjust the ride height up/down.

I cranked on it as far as i could go with the wrench. I could get a little more out of it, but dont want to brake anything. Once i compress the spring, i will be able to thread it up easily.

Question

Sure doesn't sound right to me.
I've had 625 lb./in. springs on QA1s and never had to use a spring compresser.

Did you lube the threads before adjusting the spring seats?
