Default STS turbo + boltons - what cam?

So as the title states - i am planning on a STS turbo kit, and i aleady have some bolt-ons. Just trying to plan out a cam to go with this setup.

The mods I will have are as follows:

STS Turbo kit
FAST 78MM intake manifold
42lb (or bigger) injectors
Bigger fuel pump
Pacesetter LTs
Pacesetter ORY
MAF Screen Removed
TB Bypass
Spec Stg3+ Clutch
A meth kit
And a cam that will b used with stock heads.

As you can tell im not looking for crazy power. I'd like to be around 500rwhp and torque similar. This is a weekend streetcar more or less

With that said - any suggestions on a decent Cam? or is a custom cam the only route?

Thanks!

From what I've read on here you don't want headers for the sts kit, so I'd just heat wrap your original manifolds, as to what cam, x2 for pming patrick!

I was tempted to PM him. But before I do I was just curious what other peoples experience is.

I was thinking maybe an LS6 cam would do the trick from what ive been reading. But I'd love to have that cammed sound with that turbo.

I think i should have posted this in the forced induction area but im a noob lol

224/224 .581/.581 112+2 LSA

That will do the trick nicely, it is a XE-R lobed cam (Comp Cam) 112 LSA and with 2* advance (110 ICL). 0 overlap so no boost lost, power everywhere across the band

A more common cam to find that would be cheap and VERY effective would be an 02+Z06 cam out of a C5. They work well under boost. Guys sell there cams out of their Z's cheap after they do a cam swap.

Do a search on rear mount turbos running headers and larger turbo housings. You will see they suffer from dramatic turbo lag. While many people blame this on cam selection or turbo sizing, most of it has to do with heat/velocity of exhaust leading up to the rear-mount turbo. Long tube headers, while great for NA, absolutely murder the fast spooling ability of the larger turbos in back. Most find they can cure this by replacing the headers and y-pipe with the original stock exhaust manifolds and y-pipe. The performance improves even more if the y-pipe is wrapped with with header wrap all the way to the turbo housing.. When this is done, you can run a more aggressive cam with more duration and more overlap.

If you insist on running the less than optimal long tube headers with no heat wrap, then you'll have to run a cam with a small intake and exhaust duration and not very much overlap. Again, the exhaust setup you run is totally critical for optimum performance and should be dialed in before you select a cam.

That is what I had been told before along time ago, that you need a certain amount of heat for a turbo. It helps with exhaust velocity. Thats why some xtreem stups use inconel for the manifolds-shortys- because you do lose alot of heat and velocity with headers. And with the turbo at the rear it needs a near stock size piping to achieve the velocity. But some of the big set ups Ive seen the turbo is installed very close to the manifold. Heat=energy=power. But to much=a lawn ornament.

Is there a benefit from running a aftermarket Y pipe with the stock exhaust manifolds?
