i am in the process of recovering my seats (ordered the hawks 3rd gen recovery kit) and am thinking about replacing the cushions on the drivers seat. the lower cushion i think is discontinued but the upper cushion is showing a part number on Gm parts direct and is only $37 shipped...

the part number shown is 16739035 and it says its "non european" is this correct? the picture of the european seats resembles the base firebird while the non euro resembles the T/A which is what i'm looking for...

can someone confirm this is what i need?



i found a part for the seat bottom 16794382 but it doesn't come up on Gm parts direct... does this mean the part is discontinued?

not necessarily. sometimes gm changes part numbers, so i would keep looking, maybe get in touch with someone at a dealership to give you the new part number.

yeah i guess my question was confusing...

basically my question is

"is the T/A seat considered european style or non european style?"

i went ahead and ordered the seat cushion for the "non european style" based on the pic above, and some part numbers i found on a 3rdgen GTA site which stated that the GTA seat cushions were still available "by way of 4th gen T/A seat cushions" and they posted the part no's for the uppers and the single lower one...(uppers are apparantly driver or pass side, but the lower is universal to either.)

i wouldn't be suprised if the lower portion is discontinued because they changed the seat design for 1996 and got rid of the adjustible portion under your legs at the front of the seat.

GMPartsDirect normally stops selling parts when GM Discontinues them. I just looked up the part number "16794382" on NewGMParts they do have it in stock. NewGMParts always seems to have parts well after GM discontinues them.

Glad to see you went with the HawksThirdGen kit, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

damn, why is the lower piece so much more than the top?

since no one really ever sits in my pass seat and the pad on the lower drivers side doesnt look too terrible, i'll probably just swap it over to the pass side and then use the new upper piece on the drivers side along with the passenger lower piece... i'm already gonna be spending ~ $600 as it is ($425 shipped for the upholstery, $37 for the back foam piece, and another $100-$150 at a shop to have the plastic side pieces sewn on)


i wonder why they list the lower pad for the seat as 93-96... i thought they changed the lower seat after 95 and removed the adjustible part.. wouldn't that change the lower pad? thanks for the info though. at least i know where to get it if i decide to replace that one too.

I'm pretty sure the lower part comes with the tracks and everything, not just the cushion.

Look at the description, it says "93-96 non-European 96" so it was probably changed midway threw 96 production.

ah. yeah that would make sense... i saw it elsewhere as 93-97 but i dont think ive ever seen a 96-97 w/ the adjustible things on the front of the seat like my 95 has. i just got done posting a wanted ad in the classifieds... maybe i can find someone parting out a car with a decent pass seat that has warn leather and they would sell just the pad.
