Default Race Gas in a stock LS1??

Just say you have a Head and Cam only otherwise stock LS1. Can you run Race fuel (CAM 2, VP ect) in it safely?? Or is it bad for it?

No cats..

Thanks

It's no different than 93 with octane booster. Yes, you can, but your car isn't tuned for it.

If the car has detonation problems then yes, you will see a gain. In a nut shell race gas allows you to run more timing. You don't gain anything from the gas itself, but it allows you to advance the spark.

i agree so on a well running street car the average person would see no gain.

unless your car is tuned for race gas it is pointless to use it

Make damn sure it's unleaded race gas, usually 100 Octane. 110 usually contains lead, of which will kill your 02 sensors & may gunk up your injectors.

Even without tuning a gallon or two of 100 octane unleaded race gas might give you a little bit of a safety margin against detonation. The would have to be tuned as the others mention to get a gain with it. The leaded race gas will kill the O2 sensors in time.

if you dont need it, dont use it.
going with a high octane fuel can actually hurt performance.
its more dense, takes more effort to burn.

no reason to run higher octane if you are not seeing detonation or pinging now. Plus if the gas is leaded, it will ruin the O2 sensors very quickly

a friend of mine didnt listen to me, and put race gas in his bolt-on lt1...after running the race gas a few times, all of a sudden his car wouldnt go any faster than 13.9 @99 in the qtr. i told him he was retarded, and he changed his o2's, and was back to running 13.0. dont run the race gas.
