Default 2 Alpine Type-R 12s in my Camaro

well i have had this setup in my car for about 3 months and im loving it, but i will be going bigger when i get the time and money. the best part is that i did everything myself, and ill be doing the big 3 too unless i get too frustrated/pissed/confused.

as it is now, it GETS DOWN much to the dismay of my battery and alternator. im probably gonna get around to doing the big 3 this week or next, which is much needed and hopefully it fixes my dimming problem.

so the only thing thats keeping me from being any louder is size constraints for obvious reasons, im sure if i made the box bigger it would get louder. also im pretty sure the subs are raping this amp with no lube, so i try to keep it reasonably low

ok heres some pics and video.

i have done big 3 with 1/0 also put a yellow top in and with that it seemed to help alot. Most higher end subs sound better in a big ported box which is what I used to have, this smaller sealed box doesnt sound as good to me. If your looking to do big 3 I would recommend getting your wire from knukonceptz.com cheap price very high quality.

If not try putting 1lb. in each chamber.

yeah in the backseat lol!

i just got done doing the big 3 and im not pleased with the results. basically i did about 3 hours of work with the same end result. the battery gauge in the car is reading a little higher but my lights are still dimming, i guess the next step is an optima red top which i wont be able to afford for a while.

the "big 3" as people call it, while worthwile to do from an attention to detail aspect if you are going all out on your stereo upgrade, does little for actually helping performance. The wires in question are relatively short in length, and the decreased resistance of upgrading them usually doesn't make a noticeable improvement.

As for the battery, I would recommend a yellow top, as they can handle higher current demands better then the reds (being deep cycled). But I would still not expect a miracle improvement. A cap, or several caps may help if the dimming is not that bad, otherwise, an upgraded alternator is the way to go.

thanks for the advice!! how much would i be spending for such an alternator?? and i guess yellow top is the way to go, i dont know much about optimas i just read that the red tops have more cold cranking amps so i just thought the red top was the more poweful of the two.

also, i noticed that for some reason whenever we wired everything up when i first put the system in we didnt go to the battery. its connected to the positive terminal on the fuse block, across from the battery. im pretty sure that since its connected like this that the big 3 didnt help because i didnt upgrade the wire from the battery to the fuse block. hopefully u can understand what im trying to say, but do you think it would benefit me to hook it up straight to the battery?? if i do, its gonna be a pain in the *** since im either gonna have to figure out a way to extend the wire to the amp or run a new one (not likely lol).

well before mine would stay a little above 13, now its reading about 15-16. of course using the factory gauge in the car.
