Project ugly brakes (pics)
Was hemming and humming to do this today, forcast said 5% rain chance, clouds outside said 75% but all in the end only drizzled for a few minutes.
Wanted to paint my calipers, was a hard decision on paint color. Couldnt find a blue that matched the 25th Ann. stripe so I went with the classic red
I had 1 caliper kit that included brush on paint and caliper cleaner and such. Ended up NOT using this, after much searching I decided to go to my local auto shop and pick up a $6 can of engine paint.
Many people have said dont use engine paint, it looks like **** blah blah but I am very impressed how easy this was and how good it looks.
Before anything
I would say the prep job took more time then anything, making sure to cover everything but the calipers. Sprayed them down several times with caliper cleaner.
I set 5-8 coats of paint, 5-10 minute intervals and letting the last coat sit for 45min - 1hr.
I love the Anniversary TA's , but white is the hardest color to keep clean, period. I wash my car weekly to try and maintain but one thing I neglected her on was the brake dust. These are the same wheel's that came with her 15 years ago.
After some wet dry sand paper, scotch brite, wheel cleaner, wheel wax cleaner, and 2 very sore hands...
And the final pictures of the calipers
It me about 2 hours each wheel, again most of this time is prep work and waiting for everything to dry. Oh, and I only had 1 jack stand
Very pleased with the paint, looks great. Now i'll let you guys know if I'm driving down the highway tomorrow and get to work with chipped paint brakes

looks great and you're lucky your rims hide the hubs. I recently painted my front and rear calipers when doing a complete brake job but skipped the rotor hubs, now they are rusted and the rear ones look like crap. Looks like I'll have another project next summer.
