Default 4.30s gears

Hey guys Im probably sure someone might have already asked this one before but I was wondering if putting 4.30s or 4.56 gears in a stock ls1 camaro ss, would be an ok idea or not? If yes, what should I know about all this and any precautions I should take? Later Im thinking of installing a Trex cam

wrong forum bud. try GEARS & AXLES down a little farther. if you think someone has asked it (which they in 7 years, someone has) then search it. dont eat up space with questions that have answers.

Thats too much gear unless your car wil be full time drag car trying to get every ounce of ET possible. 4.10s is plenty for the street NA car.

Put a 28" tire underneath it, killer trq arm, lca relocates, shocks and let it hit.

Not in a stock rear. 4.11 is allready making a fragile rear more so (especialy M6). IMO save $$ for a 12 bolt or 9" first.
Yes a T-Rex would like tighter gears to get in the band quicker.

I ran 4.30's with a 27" tire, and 4.57' with a 28" tire on my 2001 H/C Z/28. 4.10's are good gears for a bolt on street car. As other have mentioned, the stock rear won't hold up long with a big gear and traction.

dont put them in a 10 bolt, and you dont want anything higher then 4.11s until you have a decent size cam anyways.. the point of gears is to get you to the powerband you want and stay there as long as you can, something that high on a stock ls1 cam will give you no time at peak HP before itll be hitting the limiter... i say 3.73s are the highest you want in a 10 bolt as well

4.30s are fine for a manual car with an aftermarket rear.

i jumped from a 3.70 to a 4.30 and only picked up .07 hundreths. im not going back, but i miss my cruising speed.
you really need to make a bigger jump for a large impact.
if its weekend car, strip only, 4.56.
if its a stock 10 bolt and you drive it, id get tired of the 4.56.... IMO

I really like my 4.30s, had 3.73s beore. And I street drove on stock whells only 25.8 tall.
I would have gone right to 4.56s with 28" slicks but you run out of gear at 130's taking your motor to 7K.

i run 4.56's in my 12 bolt and got 29.6 mpg on the highway driving to memphis. i run on a 27' tire and it's tight going through the traps with my H/C.
