Pinion Gear Broke
Well I had these gears installed by a local guy here..They Whined a touch on Decel when i picked the car up..it was really faint so i said Screw it and chocked it up to material the gears were made out of...
So a week later the whining is louder and is now on the the accel side from 30-65... took it back and he checked it and said there was a little wear but not to bad....Ok another 2 weeks go by and the thing is screaming and im a little annoyed... a few more days now it make a vibrating whine and sounds bad.. also ticks when im slowing to a stop.. so i pull. the cover and 3 teeth are cracked on pinion gear..Im Like WTF I havent gone to the track... I havent taken off to hard from a stop and if i did i sure as hell wasnt hooking up... I did have some wheel hop one time when i was getting on it from about 15 mph.. maybe that did it.. But its crazy that the Motive 3:73 only lasted 1000 miles..Im thinking its because they werent setup right to begin with and i know your gonna say get a 9 bolt or 12 or s60 but the funds arent there right now so i just gotta rebuild this one agian.. ohh well Now to Take it to Doc at EFI Alchemy and have them Do it Right!! Cant Wait!

Did you do any kind of break in procedure (ie heat cycle) before goosing it?? No doubt, it probably wasn't setup perfect, but taking it out and beating on it (if that's what you did) right out of the gate doesn't help anything..

Yea... We heat cycled it and i was easy on it for the first 4-500 miles..After that is when i started driving like usual agian.. had the stock 2:73's in it before with 100,000 miles on them and never had a problem i just upgraded because i wanted to get off the line faster... But yea they were cycled and babied to start.. just bad setup i think.. He told me he had a good pattern on it.. but who knows... i just know its broke now

Absolutely bad setup!
Yes, wheel hop is bad on them, but I gaurantee a good setup gear will outlast the axle shaft/driveline.... I don't care if it's a premium brand gear or el'cheepo from Genuine Gear.
