Default Help me with my recipe for destruction!

ok well im sure some of you have seen my 408 build thread, if not here it is.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ld-thread.html

anyway, the time has come to figure out what PARTS exactly i need for my motor. i want it to be able to put down atleast 500+rwhp through an M6. I would also like something that will respond well to nitrous and possible even forced induction. dont count on the forced induction just a thought. but either of those 2 would be very very far down the road, not for atleast a few years.

heres what have got in mind but i am totally new to this stuff so please bare with me.

408 shortblock
no idea what pistons, rods or crank to use.
i would like to join the donkey dick cam club. TREX, MS4, Polluter, etc.
ported L92 heads
ported L76 intake
double roller timing set
ls7 lifters
ported LS6 oil pump
double valve spring kit
hardened pushrods
no idea what rockers to use

I may have forgotten a few things but i mainly need help on where to get a good shortblock. I see TSP has a 408 shortblock for 3475 with -2cc pistons, and eagle rods and eagle forged crank. is this what im looking for? there is also a local shop here called Finish Line Performance and i think they do shortblocks and im also going to have them tune it. I dont want to go much over 3500 for just the shortblock and if i get it from FLP i wont have to worry about shipping. but ill have to talk to them and see what they got.

I also dont know what heads cam or intake to go with. this is going to be a badass street car and something i can take to the drag strip alot too. I also want something to beat on the 03/04 cobras hehe.

I hear the L92/L76 combo is a very good bang for the buck deal. and please recommend me the best cam for my setup as well. i want something with a nasty idle and makes good power up top but isnt a total puss down low either but whatever you guys think would be best.

thanks,

Jeff

you need to decide which path your going first. a FI motor will need to have low compression pistons as a NA nitrous motor will like around 11:1 compression. also a "donkey dick" cam like a trex will not be that agressive in a 408 b/c of the extra cubes. i would get like a texas giant cam which is 248/254 6xx/6xx. best thing to do is call a vendor like texas speed and have them help you decide which parts to use. GL and with a 408 you will have little problem with a 03 cobra unless it has a twin screw on it thens it time to spray it.

i think i will throw away the forced induction idea and go for N/A with nitrous later.

about the cobras, this guy i know has an 04 vert with a pulley, cai and exhaust. i know i would destroy him but i hear hes thinking about throwing on a whipple supercharger. he will probably be pushing 600rwhp and that will be hard to beat. i know ive got a bit of a weight advantage but still.

FWIW I was looking at an SS with a LME built 408 before I bought my car. Not sure on exact specs but it had AFR heads, Fast 90/90, and an LG G5X4 cam and made right at 500rwhp. It was a pretty stout setup and had a sick idle when i drove it around, just wasnt what I was looking for in a DD. It was built to handle a 300shot although the owner hadnt sprayed it yet. Throw a little dope on something like that and run circles around your cobra friend. Good luck in your build whatever you decide.

BTW I've seen 600 hp whipple Cobras run 14's in the 1/4. It's all about putting all the HP the the ground.

Not saying with slicks and good driver that it's not good for low 10's.

When you see a 600 hp cobra on the street with street tires or even DRs...it's a different story.

Traction is your friend. A 600 HP cobra will have a hard time off the line on the street...

if i raced him it would probably be at the track. if i have around 500rwhp what kind of times could i be seeing with a decent setup and decent driver?

With a good rear to take the power, some slicks, no missed shifts, you could be good for low 11s or better but there are so many variables. Never can tell until you run it.

If you call Weber Racing and ask about my 408 build, it'll do a lot more than what you're looking for and they can tailor it down a little to fit you better. (hydraulic roller instead of solid, regular head studs instead of half inch, different rocker arm setup, etc...just more street friendly.) My build is a pump gas friendly solid roller, built to handle 500+ shot of nitrous (race gas when spraying).

Most of the build is on here, but without pictures now. Or just PM me.

Here is the Custom cam I have for sale.
Gross Valve Lift 1.70 Ratio: .646” .648”
Duration @ .050” Tappet Lift: 246* 254*
Lobe Separation: 113*

I just removed it from my 408. I am going to a turbo so the cam will no longer work for me. It was an N/A nitrous car, made 525 RWHP through an automatic.
