Default waisting money on quieting down TD's?

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE ONLY PLEASE!!!

i have pacesetter LT's into custom 2.5 xpipe with 1 chamber race flowmasters before the axle...

best pics and clip i have here..

http://s250.photobucket.com/albums/g...t=SD531107.flv

im thinking of keeping everything the same and going under the axle.. im not worried if my exhaust guy can do it.. or if it will have ground clearance, both those i know are possible...

WHAT I DO WANT TO KNOW IS!!!!!

how much quieter will it be inside the car.. i dont care how loud it is outside, the louder the better.. but i want it quieter on the inside...

thanks in advance!

Damn, your 1 chambers sound a lot louder than mine. lol

It made a big difference in my old ford truck running my 40 series out the back, cut down on the drone.

I think running out the back would help, from what i've read cats will help alot too and help refine the sound. Just my opinion.

running out the back wont cost that much.. and wont make it any more restrictive..

i used to have 1 chambers dumped back when i had stock manifolds and cats. when i got the headers, i extended them out to the back and took the cats out and it killed the drone and made it a LOT quieter inside the car. when you get on it, it loader outside the car, but inside, its pretty tame.

I believe my combo is indentical to yours... PRC 5.3L heads, MS4 cam, FAST intake, long tubes, 3" true duals with Flowmaster single chambers going to a PT4000 converter. Anyways, run the exhaust out the back. My setup goes over the axle and out the back and is fairly tame cruising around with minimal drone. Certainly nothing like every dumped car I've ever been in. Don't go under the axle!

What's the deal with that idle? Sounds weak for that cam.

yea we do have almost the exact same setup... thanks for advice!

it was a cold start (low 30s) and it was idling high, if i remember it was at about 1100-1200rpms.. i was having trouble getting her started and keep it running without me helping it in cold weather.. so my tuner bumped the rpms up for when its cold untill she warms up...

after it warms up it drops back down to 950.....................

i promise it has MUCH more lope than whats in that clip!

I always laugh at these threads like this. Please help me quiet down my 1 chamber race mufflers.....funny stuff. Running them out the back will help reduce the noise inside the car, that's a no brainer because it's can't make it any louder. But I believe the dreaded drone will haunt you.

i dont care how loud it is outside, the louder the better..
i just want to make a little more pleasant on the inside of the car.. and didnt want to waste my money... if there wasnt any noticeable difference i wouldnt do it.. thats why i was asking....

its going to be loud no matter what i do... but not AS loud...

thanks for your input!

Another option after you run the pipes out the back is to Dynamat the back 1/2 of the car. It will quieten the car down on the inside but isn't cheap and adds a lot of weight. Just an idea.

i was thinking that... but just how much would it weigh to do say... where the ttop holders are?

that was an option.. but im trying to lighten the car up.. and wouldnt want to add over 15-20 lbs... how much does a 2x2 section of that way?

Not sure about individual sheets of Dynamat, but their Extreme Trunk kit includes 5 sheets, 18" x 32" in size and the kit weighs about 22 pounds. So that comes out to about 4.4 pounds a sheet.

off the top of your head you know the cost on that kit?

ive never really used any of that, how much you think it would help?

all im going to do IF i do it is the back where the spare goes and the opposite side.. and where the ttops go.. also would the extreme trunk kit cover all of that?

The Extreme kit can be found for about $60. I did a little more than the t-top area and it made a huge difference. I also did the doors which made another big difference. The car feels more solid and less road and exhaust noise. It's freaking heavy though. I bought several kits and can't really remember how much it takes but I would think a trunk kit will cover what you want.

I have my true duals with flo-pro twisters run out the back and I daily drive my car without any complaints. I'm actually surprised how civilized it can be cruising around.

sounds good man... when i run them out the back.. if it isnt quiet enough on the inside still (which im thinking it will be) i may just pick up a kit and do this..

thanks for all the responses everyone!
