Default TSP 231/237 or TR 230/224

Give me some feedback on these cam setups. I really dont know much about cams, but I have been reading a good bit lately. Here are my goals. First of all the car is not a daily driver. I want a wicked sounding cam with gobs of power. My mods are below, and I will be adding LT headers, Xpipe and true duals when I do the cam swap. I would like to push the 400+ mark with stock heads. I know that this is lofty, but it seems to be attainable with good tuning. It looks like everyone is very happy with the TSP 231/237 cam. I looked up their camshaft package on their website. What else will I need to order to ensure reliability? TIA for all of your answers.

Well my vote goes for the TR230. I just installed mine last weekend and had it tunned yesterday and made 402.9rwhp and 374.1 rwtq on STCOK heads WITH CATS.

Here is a link to full story with mods:

i like the tr230. it's the cam i have in my car. it makes great power and lopes really hard. you can look at my dyno graph in my sig. i'm running a really conservative tune on it as well. the cam has a really nice flat torque curve which makes it still very drivable. my car IS my daily driver and my only car.

i've also heard good things about the tsp231/237 but do not have any first hand experience with it. from what i've seen, it seems to be a little bit more of a peaky cam without as good of torque curve. however, if you ever plan on spraying your car then that cam would be a good choice.

with either cam you will need to upgrade your valvetrain parts. you will need new springs to handle the extra lift. this may require that you buy new retainers, seats, and valve seals depending on which springs you choose. you will also need hardened pushrods. that is all that is required that you upgrade, however, i would suggest upgrading your timing chain as well. good luck with whatever you decide to go with.

I was going thru the same decision as you are, but I elected to go with the TSP 231/237 mostly for the fact that I was going to be using some nitrous on my car. I've been driving the car for three days now since the install and I can promise you that this cam sounds MEAN at idle. All three days that I have driven it I have had someone walk up to me and ask me about the car. Even with the large duration my car drives just fine at 1,500rpm in 6th gear on the highway.. I'm really impressed so far.

Damn! I'm putting in a TR230 2 weeks from now.
Should I go TSP 231 and save myslef a future swap to go bigger? My car is a daily driver. Would the benefits of the TSP 231 be seen strictly at extreme revs?
Ah, such dilemmas....

both cams arent the best choice for daily drivers. IMO i would only go with the TSP cam if i was considering nitrous.

These are the 2 cams im considering too. Which one is easier on valve springs? My car is my daily driver in the summer. Under 5,000 miles per year. Thanks

I think the TR230 should be easier on valve springs because of its lower lift numbers.

BUT, the TR230 has more aggresive "fast ramp" lobes than the TSP 231/237.

I noticed the ramp rates, and lift #'s, I didnt know which one affected spring life longer. Any other opinions?

I'm doing a cam upgrade in a week. I have both of these cams (the TR230 and the TSP231) ready to go in. I'll decide which one to go with soon. I'm leaning towards the TSP right now.
Heads are planned for next year. I want this to be my final cam swap. The C1 was great, but I want more already!

I would go with the smaller of the two in a heart beat. (TR230)

Like gomer said, just because the TSP has more lift dosen't make it harder on springs. The thunder cam has a "harder" lobe, which will make it harder on springs. There's more to it than just lift numbers.

If you compare the two cams dyno wise, it seems like the TR 230 has a much broader power band and isn't "peaky" like the TSP cam seems to be. Just my opinion though.

If you go TSP, I would be interested in buying the TR from you. Is it new? Let me know...
