Eastern Members - 75-80 dragway....

i know since the track closed in 05 there has been many rumors that it is goin to reopen. in saying that i know ill catch alot of NO's or never gonna happen. all i know is latly i have been hearing a whole lot of rumors from old timers saying that it will be reopened but as a 1/8th mile track.

i have been looking around on google/yahoo trying to find info about this and found that the soil testing came back positive for oil and gas. plus due to the shitty economy the housing development fell through.

Bill will never spend the money to make the track useable again.Hell,he wouldnt spend any money on it when there were 1000 people there on friday nights.Unless somebody else buys it and opens it,it is done for.

wow...I remember running there a long time ago (maybe 9-10 years ago)....i thought the place was a dump back then. just looked like no one took care of anything and it was just falling apart. i was afraid to sit on those bleachers cause they looked like they were gonna collapse.

It would be awesome to see a new 75-80 built, preferably in 1/4 mile form. I know I'd probably go there if it did get re-built, but as another poster said it looks like the owner would never put any money into it. In my years that I went there to watch drag races, nothing ever changed, no new surfaces, stands or anything.

Mason Dixon in Hagerstown laid down a new surface the past summer or fall after seeing it when driving by on the interstate. Though I've never actually been there so I don't know, it may be a good alternative to 75/80. Mapquest shows it being 1hr 9mins from Westminster. Also for the heck of it trying to remember just where 75/80 was located, google maps came up with two locations, one appearing to be a farm next to an airport near Frederick & the other being the actual location.

For the amount of money the owner made in the years it operated I don't think it'd be that hard to throw down a new surface (even if it was just an 1/8th mile), new pit area and put up some new stands. Yes it's a bit of work but when the track would open, it would be well worth it.

Sure would be nice but I really don't think it will ever happen.

shit...i would gather my buddies up with the lawn mowers and weed wackers and start fixing it up if he agreed to reopen it up and pay for materials. iam sure there would be tons of more people that would lend a hand.

yeah the bealchers were shit and the track wasnt that bad there. i always ran great there with all three of my f bodies, its not a big deal that it was run down and what not i liked it because of the people and the atmosphere. u couldnt beat it.

i just wish i knew who to talk to or how to get a hold of bill. i miss that track so much

75-80 is just down the street from me.

I loved going to that track. My friends and I would go down there on their Fall Ford weekend and have a blast drag racing and autocrossing. That was back in the mid nineties. Lots of fun memories. I'd definitely go back if it reopened

The rumor I heard was 1/8th only. I used to live right off rt80 a couple miles down the road. I remember getting home from work and hearing the cars doing burnouts and heading down there for OPS on Fri night. Good times. Never ran any good times there though.

well its not certain if it is gonna reopen just yet. from what i have heard it is gonna be set up just like it was. onyl OPS cars ran 1/8 mile everyone eles runs 1/4 mile. if u cant slow down in time there is a big corn feild at the end of the track.... or there was?

word is they were supposed to have a meeting either last night or two nights ago. Apparently something is in the works right now and if it opens the opening night will be the begining of april. It will be OPS, drag radial, and 9 inch nightmares on friday nights, 1/8 mile only. Ill let you know more as i find out

I dislike Mason Dixon and it is way to far to drive. Rt 70 sucks there is always a traffic jam and my car dont like to go slow w the cam I have. I hope 75/80 opens back up. I still want to race my street bike and that would be a fun drive from my house. Ill go help clean up that place!

O god I hope it opens back up. I spent alot of friday nights up there but never had the oppertunity to run a car down the track. The best part is its only like 10 min from my house. Its a shame to see that place like that. I heard a rumor also a while back that a paver guy that ran there would pave it for free or real cheap.

i just read a post on streat freaks.com and a guy said he saw KW Miller truck running around the track today.

haha i went by today and they were working on something in the field where everybody would pit. However a good friend just called bill and bill said nothing is going on and the zoning has went up on it so i dunno.

aight i went by there today and there were construction workers it looked like grading the pit area in the back field, they were taking dirt to the other side of the track. there was no one there to talk to, i took some pictures ill post them up a lil later.

Yeh I rode by there too and it looks like they were near where tech was. There was a KW Miller truck there, a rollback, and some other machinery. Hopefully there digging a hole for a fuel tank :D

Well I have some good news, I just got off the phone with a good friend who told Me 75&80 will be re-opening this spring, friday and sat. nights as an outlaw track. He said his dad personally spoke with bill earlier today.

i read this thread last week and happened to have to go to Hagerstown to check out a car .I rode out there and checked out whats left of the track last friday , looks like they just locked the gate in 05' and never looked back . It was some kind of machinery in the feild diggin in the dirt .........Wasnt that where the show Motorweek use to test there cars at ?

Yeh Motorweek still uses the track. Ive been reading on Street-Freaks at all the 75-80 posts they say its very likely it will reopen. Hope there right.

iam in westminster down 31 near the live stock auction. i know alot of people that live down in the eldersburg area lo thats crazy

that track looks like it needs new everything. it wouldnt of run there anyway the lanes are to narrow and if you get out of the groove your screwd

A friend of mine caught the new owner at the track today and it seems as though it will re open. I am getting this second hand, but it sounds like a lot of new items are coming to the old track.

I live just 3 miles from the track and go by it every morning going to work. I did see some equipment digging lately. Let's see what happens.

The track was NEVER sold to anyone. The deal did not go through. As for the excavation you are seeing. It is K.W. Miller screening dirt to use for fill on some of their const. sites.
Bill told people last Nov. that he would not reopen it or lease it to anyone. He reiterated that at a function I was at in December. I heard it from his own mouth. I doubt much has changed his mind between then and now. There are tons of people that would like to see it reopened. I just don't see it happening

One other thing you guys need to consider. If there is a new owner all of this has to go in front of the Frederick County Council and permitting deptartments. There is NO WAY that will happen, with being required to have at least 1 public hearing before giving them a permit to reopen as a dragstrip. Frederick county was waiting for the day the track closed. The people in the surrounding houses arent going to let it reopen. The only way the track could reopen that quickly would be if Bill leased it to someone with him remaining as the owner. I would love to know who all these different people are talking to when they say they "talked to Bill" There is also suppossed to be a mixed adult retirement facility being built just up the road. do you really think they are going to allow the track to reopen knowing what is coming? I hate to be a stick in the mud, just looking at reality.

Here's what I was told, first hand, no hand-me-down stuff: the guy said they were getting rid of the dirt that was previously piled up and filling a hole on the adjacent farm. Then he said they were going to clean up the parking area by mowing the weeds down with the brush hog (pointing to said brush hog). I said "For what?" He said "They are gonna re-open the race track". Exact words! I asked him if they were going to pave the parking area, he said he didn't think so but that they were replacing the bleachers. I'm adding nothing of my own, that's everything he told me and nothing more. It sounds promising but I'm still not getting my hopes too high. "

I talked to him today and that's not the story I got. He said he is not sure what there going to do because he does not own it anymore and its all up to the new owner but he did recomend it to be done that way. Only time will tell.

My source was Bill Wilcom at a Christmas party in December. Anything is possible. I'm not saying it can't happen, It's just not likely. Considering a new owner will have to jump through all of Frederick counties permitting processes. They won't just be able to open the track back up. The track had been grandfathered in to the county becuase it was there before all the houses. But everything would have to be brought up to current code which will cost $$$$.

I did some checking today while at work. The track is still listed in the tax and property records as being owned by 75-80 Dragway Inc. and still has Bills address listed. These records are updated 3 times a week. So if the property has changed ownership it would reflect it there. This is no big secret to find this info out. It is all public record. You just have to know where to look.

you know there is a easy way to do this right? someone who lives close go to that towns town hall and pull up the *PUBLIC* land records on the property, it will tell you when it was sold, to who, and what the purpose of the land was as you need to keep this up to date every year for taxes :D

Hey guys, I'm new to this sight, but have been local to the 75-80 scene since the early nineties. Just heard from a VERY reliable source yesterday that the track will open at the latest by July, with the possibility to open as soon as April. The starting line will be moved forward 300 feet, so you drive through the burnout box on up to the starting line instead of backing in. The track will be eighth mile and the entire racing surface is going to be concrete! I will post any other info as it comes to me, but for now, to the best knowledge of my source this is NOT A JOKE.

Well wont be going to 75-80 if its 1/8 mile, probably wouldn't go if it was 1/4 mile anyways. That track was the worst anyways going down the return road bottoming out. No traction, I went there with my stock SS and spun all the way to the 1/8 mile. I guess its still crapitol for me!

well the reason.... is because frederick co. doesent want it to open. they dont have a leg to stand on so the owners werre trying to keep it kinda quiet.... nufff said. they prolly still want to keep is quiet but who ever posted the face book obviously didnt care..... so yeah sorry

has anyone read the retarded amount of classes they are trying to run this is so stupid i wont be there and will be surprised if it is by the end of season all classes heads up..ops , 9inch , radial etc etc and then pro tree heads up classes for 10.0 ..11.00..12.00..13.00..14.00 why not go to twenty to see if the retards can count that high ...since 1960 this was a bracket type race track why because very few can afford heads up drive by skill not by wallet hell even pinks does a handi cap and these new morons want to re-event the wheel ..round works just fine

I just got off the phone with the rep -- I don't know about advertising there, but about a month before they open I'm advertising the opening in my front store window -- It's very timely with news I got today that my 87 Z28 made the cover of a new 3rd Gen magazine. I need an updated photo shoot, now I know where to go...we're all cleared. The rep's coming by my shop to check out my window ad before I get it up and it's just a matter of spring until we can all be at the track.:nod:

most popular? mason capitol and mir are packed every weekend .not that many are tired . i have raced at 75/80 since 86 and helped jimmy and his mustang hold the ops record for almost two seasons so dont tell me about heads up racing i was thier when we all got it started but heads up means $=faster and that cuts about 80% of the local racers out not mention it takes alot more skill to dial you and car in to consitent number than mash the gas and not run out ..hell the most popular race show ever pinks gives guys a handi cap becuse people want to see close races not just who is fastest

i spoke to a couple of the ops guys today and thier happy the track is reoping but the think the rest is dumb and are worried that this complete stupidit will cause it to have an early demise these track cost money to operate and after a month every one will know who is going to win what class and human nature to be bored wll set in and then people will stop coming and the income wont be thier before you run your trap and are selfish think about the big picture we all what to race but want it to last

many people i have talked too are flat out pissed becuse they supported this track thier entrie racing life and are know being indexed out

i think everyone needs to stop bitching about it and see what happens. the track is finnaly opening again. and iam sure if the owners sense a problem looming they will change somthin once the race season starts or next season.

Im ready and everyone around here is ready. The last time I was up there they had all new wood on the bleachers and all the new roofs on all the little buildings done. I think there supposed to be paving it this week.

yeah it will be 1/4 mile for TNT friday sat and sunday. bill doesnt own it anymore, camp or kevin stanley does. camp stanley told me kevin his son i suppose owns it. the track manager is J crawford... who runs street freaks.

Was at the track today. They had some free test n tune kinda thing that I just found out about this morning. Think there were just testing out the lights. Only a hand full cars there and they weren't really making any passes just burnouts and holeshots but it was good to back at the track and leaning on the fence. Only 2 more weeks :D

Was at the track today. Drove the Chevelle out. It was a good turnout considering it was windy as shit and there opening a day late then what everyone was planning for. It was good to be back there. There still trying to work the tree and the time clock board out but it looks like there getting the hang of it. Couple more weeks racing and the track should be cured enough. Saw a Black 98 WS6 Formula, Black 96 Z28, and some third gens. There was a badass GTA Turbo Trans AM there, sounded nuts. Lot of discustangs :barf:. During the summer we got to set up track day or something up there. Saw LS123 there walkin around the pits. Hope to see some of you guys up there this season. Peace.

For a saturday tnt it's $35, fri night it's $15, but by what i've heard Cecil is a much better place to run.

Cecil might be a better place to run, I don't know, never been there but for those of us who live near 75-80, grew up racing there, $25-$35 is no problem. And there are a lot of us :D

Also when I drive to Cecil I have to pay tolls and gas for and 1 and 45 min drive, instead of a 30min drive.

Sorry kinda new here. Did they repave the return lane at all? Do you have to park in the grass still? Is it an 1/8 mile track? I always ran good there but that place is a shit hole. I would bottom out trying to come back in the return lane and hated parking in the grass parking lot. I always went to capital.
