Default How many miles H/C stock block??

Coming on 77k miles on the WS6 having just put a camshaft and supporting mods in I was thinking if it's too late for this block to build up. I put a decent size cam in and wanted to go Fast 92/92 and TFS 215's and the works to make the best out of the setup. Anyone have high mileage built h/c stock block setups?? Or did everyone as they got to around 100k miles move on to a new block??

Put in my 243's and cam at 110k. At about 136k now (knock on wood). Lots of people mod over 100k. Time to start modding.

As long as your mess has been well maintained and not beat on too bad you'll be fine. Sounds like you are picking quality parts (TFS) so that is good. Don't forget to upgrade your OP, TC and do new lifters while your at it......

Oh I will be doing quality parts and building her up right. Was also pondering going built bottom end, bored to a 370 and procharged but not sure if I want to do that on this block or wait. That's why I brought this up, how many monster cars havee a stock LS1 block that was built huge after 100k miles. Not sure if trying to push over 700 hp with a 100k mile block is a good thing, anyone have more comments???

^^^ You can't go 370 on an ls1 block. There is no room for boring with the sleeves. Yoyu have to go iron block to go 370. You can stroke it out to a 383. Scoggin & Dickey has a whole rotating assm. for 1700. As for life of a stock block, I just blew mine with 94,000 miles h/c/i 175 shot. 10.55 at 134. at least 60 bottles went thru it.

Arent you on mafia? I think i was the one who asked you about your cam the other day lol. You will be fine with the miles you have on your car. I have jsut turned 90,000 miles and will be putting a cam in it within the next few months and im not to scared lol. Just make sure you change your oil regularly and take care of the car and youll be fine!

Yeah i'm the one on mafia haha. I'm not worried about cam really, I plan on doing that and my Fast 92/92 setup. I mean reguardless I can put both of those in a new 402 if I decide to go that route. But TFS 215's I wouldn't, i'd want to go a little bigger and those are quite pricey.

I wasn't too worried about the cam and all but the more I have been thinking about the whole build the more I look around and see everyone who builds up there motors to be under 50k miles. And the responses in here aren't too encouraging haha.

Honestly man when i took mine apart at 99k (after 49k miles of nitrous nearly every weekend on top of h/c) the motor looked great... i sold it to another person who is still driving around on it (this was 3 years ago)

If it makes you feel any better im getting ready to throw a twin turbo kit on my TA that just rolled over 150k.

just tore down my 136k+ motor and it looked real good inside. I just had the crank polised and when I put it back togother with new standard sized bearings I had .0020 clearance. Thats a little tight for a 400+ hp motor I was told. Do a leak down test then decide, if it tests good go to town. Good luck.

sounds good to me thanks, I might have to look into doing that before the heads go on.

Thanks for the info on your rides people keep them comming. Reguardless i'll be like 450+ rwhp at 85k miles just curious whether I want to go the next step and shoot for 650+ near 100k miles.

I installed my H/C at 66k in July 07 and now have 82k and she runs awesome. I spray a 100 shot on it but not very often at all. I think your plenty safe to do h/c/i.

Thanks Ryder, you are fully built at 82k dang that's nice. Is that 11.64 on motor?? Or is that on spray?? I would think with spray you should be 10's.

Ya that's on spray, but i'm clear up here in Utah at 4400' otherwise it would probably be 10's. I'm looking at degreeing my cam and milling the heads here shortly so I continue to push the stock block.

My car has 163k miles and I'm about to spray it and hopefully swap out the heads and cam in the near future (one of the heads is kinda messed up and has 2 heli coils in it, might as well swap it). That is, unless someone tells me it's a bad idea. I don't think anyone will.
