salvage title goes on cars that have been deemed "totaled" and are brought back to life. i think?

because the way i think of it, if your car is stolen, and then find it in the condition it was when you had it, why would it be considered salvaged?

i think hes right on the totaled thing, that enzo eddie griffin crashed was "restored" and its not a salvage title, they said its because the cost to total it out wasnt even close to the cost of repairs.

Makes sense to me lol

I think it comes down to what insurance says. If it cost more to put it back together than what its worth, they Deem it a total loss. Which is pretty fucked up.

So ya the title could be clean, but would you really pay 3k for a clean title impala like that? or 3k for my salvaged title impala that you can drive home.... Fuck that its the car i took to the meet today. :D

yea its only totaled/salvaged if the insurance company is involved. You have to remeber about the price. You can ask for whatever amount you want but that doesnt mean he will get it. I dont see him getting anymore then $1000 if it runs.

A car is totaled (when in a collision) based on your insurance company's values of that car. For instance, most companies set the total value to somewhere around 75% of the cars value. So lets say you have a car priced at 10,000. If they begin writing up the estimate and it hits the 7,500 mark, then they total your car. They figure it's not worth fixing after that and then cut you a check (if you don't want to buy the salvage back or don't have the option to) and auction it off.

As far as theft goes, a lot of the time it's a toss up. Not sure how the process goes myself, but my family was fortunate enough to get a brand new 06 S2000 with 300 miles on it that was stolen and recovered for a hell of a deal (dealers thought it was going to come back as a salvaged vehicle so they priced it like that, but it came back clean). The top was slit and had a couple of scratches on the bumper cover, but that was easily fixed.

also i think after a certain amount of time and repairs invested into a car with a salvaged title you can apply to have the title restored. i think i read that on a dmv website. FYI
