Want suggestions for tuning timing (methods)

Want suggestions for tuning timing (methods) I have always retarded timing for nitrous but now that my car is turbo charged I yanked a lot of timing to be safe and want to slowly advance it to a safe point. I want to know if there ar any other good methods than shutting the car off at the end of a pass and checking the burn mark location on the ground strap of a plug, or the MPH increasing or decreasing. If so I'm all ears.
