Default Buying a car with blown motor. what's my best option?

i am getting ready to buy a car that has a blown engine.

Here's the rundown
01 Z with 95K on the clock
Stock Auto
Stock 10 bolt.

Price: lets just say it's cheap. real cheap.

My question is, say the stock block is good. I know the heads are good. What would be my best option as far as getting the best bang for my buck?

I'm thinking, either do a "stock" rebuild on the ls1, or stroke it.

Possibly go to an iron block, price depending.

What would i be looking to pay for a stock spec'd rebuild?

I would say. Decide the goals that you want to achieve with the car and build off of that. parts are all over. As well and good sponsor pricing. So I would start at lsx parts section and find some good deals

thanks for the advice, i am just kinda feeling around right now. i would like to get the car running, then go from there. i don't know everything the car needs, but i have about 10K to work with + car price. i would like to do an M6 swap, also, so i need to save money for that.

really just wondering what a basic rebuild (hone, new internals - not forged, balanced, etc.) would cost

Either find a good stock rotating assembly to swap and put back in the stock block or buy a low mileage 6 liter from the junkyard and swap the whole thing in there. Thats what I would do anyway's.

a 6 liter is what, about a grand? (junkyard)

Depends on what you want to do with it. DD, fix and sell, racecar? You have the money so the choice is yours

yeah, for the money TSP has some good engines. the car will either be a fix and sell, or a street strip weekend car. I DD 2 SS's for 2 years, and i'm ready to have just a toy. Now i have a DD grand prix gtp. it's good enough.
It really all depends on the condition of it. If i do get a 402 or 408, i'll have to build the car around it, which won't be cheap. But hey, what is? I guess it's just going to depend on how good of shape its in.

Thanks for the input, and i'll let you know what i decide.

This wasnt a 2001 SOM car in St Louis was it? My buddy just went up last week and picked one up with a blown motor and he is swapping it here pretty soon to flip and sale.
