LS7 or build a stroker?
My buddy is giving me first choice on a GM LS7 longblock (still in the crate) for $6k. Do I grab that and build it or should I look at building a stroker based on an L92? To build the LS7 longblock I would need intake, TB, ECU, wiring, fuel system and all externals which I hope LS1 stuff will fit. Maybe going carb is more cost effective? I'd also have to figure out how to run wet sump (will LS1 F-body pan work?). This is for my 69 Camaro. I have a T56 and LS7 clutch/FW already.
What other challenges would I face in finishing off this motor?
I already have a complete LS6 w/auto setup incl ECU and harness that I could sell.
My goals - 95% street driven mainly on weekends and local events. Looking for 500+ RWHP. I'm actually more interested in useable street torque than peak HP.
So...... build NEW LS7 longblock or buy/build a stroker from an L92? Any insight appreciated.
Thanks,
G.

Good lord, buy that ls7 long block, that is a smoking deal. Slip a smallish cam in there and you are at 500+ rwhp.
Yes the F-body oil pan will work, you just have to drill a hole for the dipstick.
The accesory drive off of a f-body will not fit due to the longer snout on the crank (I am 90% sure of that)
Get on lateral-g.net , this has been done several times over there. They can steer you in the right direction.

Thanks guys - I just wasn't sure what I might be getting myself into since the LS7 is a little different to the others. My buddy just needs to free up some cash quick so we can make it happen fairly easy at $6k and it sounds like it's worth it.
To help offset the cost, I should be able to sell the mild LS6 (actually LS1 with LS6 heads, cam, intake and valley cover, Thunder Racing ported TB, LS4 oil pump, timing chain, ASP small pulley, Auto w/2800 stall Yank convertor, all wiring and Speartech programmed ECM).
Thanks for the info on the oil pan - very helpful. I have to figure that will get me up and running quicker and with less $ initially.
I'm wondering what it will cost to complete the top end, fuel system and electronics. Anyone have any take-offs?
Thanks all for the advice.

Ok - change of plans. My buddy was originally told he was loosing his job (been there 19yrs) so he was facing having to sell his house, projects and move out of state. 2days later they tell him - no, we need you so you can stay! Man - this economy sure does mess with people's lives! I am very happy for him but of it means no LS7 for me
Now I am all fired-up about a 427 build so I think I'm gonna still sell the modded LS6/A4 and have something built. I'm looking at having a LS3 427 shortblock built to put under some nice PRC L92's I have coming my way. Anyone have any experience with a combo like this?
It will be going in a musclecar so few restrictions. I already have a T56, LS2 f/w and LS7 clutch/pp, Moser 9". Only a weekend cruiser, not DD. It needs to run on CA pump gas (91), have a wicked idle but still be easily driven on the street (where it will live most of the time). I am more interested in a big fat torque curve than peak HP numbers. Those Vengance cams sure look nice :-)
Any guidence or experience welcomed.

Not for sale any more. He got to keep his job (which is good news for him) so I am pleased. Now I want to build a 427.... (sorry for double post, I messed up).
