Default 275/40-18's on a GXP?

275/40-18's on my GXP. Guys, is this possible? They're CHEAPER than 255/45-18's!!!! I can get 4 Sumitomo HTR Z III's for ~$515 that is ridiculous. I know I'll need 18x9 inch rims but has anybody even tried going this big? I'm trying to get this car to launch and I'm guessing this would probably be the best way to stick it to the ground http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...itomo&x=18&y=4 Here are the prices for the tires. They must be cheaper because nobody is buying the gawdy things anymore now that gas is so ridiculous and nobody wants performance cars with fat *** tires on em. And according to discount tire direct, the tires are only .8" wider than the 255's we had stock on our front ends. Even though they're 2" wider than the 225's we had stock on our rear ends. They are actually a tad shorter than the stock tires by .35" so there would be no fender problems, I'm just worrying about whether they would rub the inside of the front fender well. Here is the link to the tire size comparison. http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...foTireMath.jsp

i believe we have 7 inch rims on the rear and 8 inch rims on the front, i think those tires may not fit.

I realize what we have on there now, the 255/45-18's our fronts come with have a recommended rim size of 18x9 so I know the size of the rim won't cause any problems, I'm just wondering about the almost extra inch of tire that's added, and the clearance in the back added two more inches of tire

That's a negatory....I dont think those will fit without some serious modding of the fender well. Im not saying I dont want to see it happen though

Wouldn't fit the front or the back man? I'm guessing the front would be okay because they're only .8" wider than our 255's, what if I get a more rear wheel offset for the back? I have to make this work, BAD *** for sure. Also, if worse comes to worse, I'll continue to stagger like it was from the factory. I will put 275/40-18's up front and 245/45-18's out back. That should make sure that they fit without having to do offset wizardry while making sure they don't stick out too far

Check your inner fender, the subframe part. On my GXP it almost looks like the factory sized tire is rubbing on the frame.

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong, if I decrease the offset and go with an 18x9" rim the fronts should fit, they'll just stick out further and that should work on the rear too, I'm gonna go to tire barn and talk to the manager about it and see if we can't get a test rim or something to try it and make sure first. Do you guys think this would help the look of the car? I know it will help traction. Also, I don't think I'll need to roll the fenders, I have TONS of room because I don't have the car lowered therefore the height of the tire stays EXACTLY the same correct me if I'm wrong guys Deuces

Don't forget if the tire does stick out to far it will be throwing rocks and other debris on your paint.

it won't stick out more than .5" more than our stock 255's I don't think that will be kicking up many rocks. Now for the poor people behind me.... that's another story altogether LOL

subscribing, i hate these alcoa rims and want to get something else.

The best price I've found on good all season tires so far that would fit the stock rims are Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons at discounttiredirect.com:

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...w=false&cs=255

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...w=false&cs=235

You can get all 4 for $800 w/no tax (depending on what state you live in) and free UPS ground shipping. On top of that, Goodyear is offering a $50 mail in rebate. Thats $750 out the door for goodyears, not bad at all. I work at a chevy dealer and the best price they could get me on the fronts was $269 ea plus 10% tax on top of that. They don't offer the rears in a 225, so you need to step up to a 235, which is an additional 0.39" in diameter, or about 10 revs/mile. The ABS will never pick up on that little of difference. I don't know where you are at, but I just picked up my GXP for a DD, so that includes lots of snow driving. The right tire is a big deal with the crazy weather we get here in the Chicago area.

Please do this mod. I really want to see some 275s but Corny40 reports 255s rubbing so I don't know how this is going to work out.

it's all in tricking the offset of the rims, they'll fit nacho I'll make it work believe u me lol I just need to do some exact measurements my gxp has 255's on the front as is and I already have all four of those brand new speedshifter. they are good tires, just get terrible traction in packed snow, fresh snow is great but the packed stuff is HORRIBLE. Wet weather traction is so so. ROAD NOISE SUCKS but the dealership put them on brand new before i bought my car along with a full break job. not bad for 14,995 I'm gonna get the Sumitomo HTR Z III's for my summer tires they're only like 136 a piece on tirerack Still not sure about the rims, don't have many to chose from at 18x9 for our bolt pattern

i don't believe him, the lowest recommended rim size for 275/35/20 tires is 9"-11" and those actually look like the rims at 20x8.5 are too wide for the tires. Do you see what I'm talking about? those are 245's at the widest. look at how wide the stock 255's are on the front of the gxp, they're wider than that, 20's increase the diameter of the tire too much, THAT's why he had the tire rubbing I will do it for real and I'll take a close-up of the tire size to prove it, tell that guy to do that and see what he does. I want to see it on the tire! lol

Thanks for the heads up on the tires. I'm gonna rethink them now. Snow is a big deal for me. Not so much going, but stopping. I was spoiled with my AWD Denali. Now my GF has it, so i've gotta relearn driving FWD in the snow. Last car I had FWD was a '93 Cutlass back in 2001.

I just picked up my car thursday from my work. It has 37k miles on it. One of the guys I work with GM certified it and did brakes all around. I got it for $13,600. Perks of working at a dealership

Yeah thats what I thought too. Thats why I couldn't pass it up. My girlfriend has a 2000 Nissan Xterra with 175k on it. Its been a pretty decent truck for her, but latley its one thing after another thats been crapping out on it. Last week an injector went out in the bitter cold and I said thats it. I fixed it and now its time to sell it. She cant afford a car payment, but needed something. So I sold her my Denali and picked up the GXP for myself. Very sad to part with my truck, but its still staying in the household so its all good.

cherry gxp,

I did some research and confirmed what you said about tires. I was going to jump on them because they had the rebate, and because I know a lot of people with Goodyear Tripletred tires who rant and rave about them. These look similar to the tripletred so I figured it would be fine.

I went back to discounttiredirect.com and the only other tire I can find that would be practical for all season use in sizes 255/45-18 & 235/50-18 are the Falken Ziex ZE-512's.

There are reviews of great traction in all types of driving and that they are quiet. The website says, "they are rated #1 by a leading consumer magazine." Consumer Reports also rated these as their #3 favorite tire. You can't beat the price either, $606 for all 4.
