Default Too much tranny fluid

Is it true that over filling the tranny with fluid is that bad for it? How badly will it damage the seals, etc. Recently had my tranny rebuilt, and found out about 3 weeks later the shop over-filled with fluid.

What is overfilled? 1 quart probably won't hurt it. 5 probably will.

It depends on a few different variables, such as the pan your are running ,what's the operating temperature of the transmission ETC.. To keep it somewhat short, the production fluid level accounts for expansion as the temperature of the oil increases. So at very hot temperatures customer will not experience fluid expulsion from the vent, oil foaming/pump cavitating. If you over fill the transmission the oil will eventually get in the rotating parts. They then act like a blender (in simple terms), causing foaming of the fluid and potentially pump cavitation. As the temperature increases, so does the oil level.
