Default Disappointing results for H/C/I car!

Well I finally hit the track yesterday with my car and I was disppointed! Car has 1,800 miles after rebuild along with rebuilt tranny as well. With the motor/tranny rebuild I included an MS3 cam, PRC 5.3 Stg 2.5 heads, LS6 intake, and a Fuddle 3600. Car has all bolt ons but with stock suspension. Wideband tuning for nitrous was done since I will be installing a wet nitrous kit this following week.

Anyways best time was 12.2 with 1.73 and 110.5 mph. Car was run with 26 inch ET streets (which hooked up good/no spinning) but with heavy 18 inch ZO6 wheels in the front. However, the service engine light is on and showing the O2 sensors are no good! The car would take off great but bog when goin into 2nd gear as well as backfire towards the end. My friends told me they could hear it when I flew by. Could the O2 sensors really make that much of a difference when functioning properly? I mean I honestly expected 11s especially with this combo. I will be replacing the O2 sensors tomorrow and will take it back for some tuning this Monday. Let me know what u guys think! Thanks!

O2s make some difference but I wouldn't think it would be that much @ WOT. 12.2 is not bad on a nitrous tune. That just means you'll be even more impressed with the new O2s and nitrous

If I'm not mistaken, the o2s are not referenced at WOT. Strictly MAF or VE depending on how the car is tuned, aka MAF or SD. If the o2s are bad, I would think that it could of fouled plugs out at part throttle driving. I would check out the plugs after you put in the new o2s. Good luck and please post up your results!

get the new 02's and do a re-tune and get that a/f ratio down to around the 11.70 range, probably did foul out a few plugs so i would change those too

12.2 @ 110 is exaclty what my bolt-on car did. full weight at 2500' da. that car should be going 11.50s, especially this time of year. o2s will make a HUGE difference, wot or not. a bad one, or two, will make or break a car.

I already changed the O2s today and will be taking car back for tuning tomorrow. Hopefullly that will fix things and get this POS running like it should be! I'll definitely hit the track this Wednesday to get some results(I'll be mounting skinnies on the front this time)!

I don't know a lot about 02 sensors and if it that will screw you up but for a h/c/i car 110 trap seems kind of low to me. What gearing are you using?? It seems to me somethin is up, I would assume at 100% she would trap a good deal higher.

Yea, there's something bad wrong there. You should be seeing closer to 115-117mph. Do you have any HPT logs of WOT driving by chance so we can get a better idea of what's going on?

I thought a cam of that size with those heads would be seeing 120+mph?

Ya something is way off though, good luck figuring it out man.

My car with the same heads and a Torquer V2 cam is running 11.26@119.4 through a 12 bolt. I had the same problem with my car the O2s were acting up and the tune was off bad. I put in new O2s and retuned my car and it was alot faster. I told myself that it could not be in the tune but I was wrong. A good tune will make or break a good H/C/I car.

Like I had added, the O2s were replaced and some retuning was conducted today. Just picked up the car from the shop and we have found the root of the problem. Seems like the fuel pump is about to puke on me. It still runs normal driving but any type of sudden exceleration will not work. Its not pumping out enough pressure so time to get me a good one! Oh and yeah my car has 3:73 gears so once the new pump is in that trap speed should be way higher. I'll be ordering it ASAP!

With the power you should be making on that setup, 3.73s, a 3600 stall, and the auto hooking up like you say it is, that's good for easy mid-11s at high 11X, possibly better at a decent track. Get that fuel pump sorted out and get us an update!

I heard if it's O2s that are the problem you'll still run good @ WOT. I'm glad that wasn't it and you found the problem. You needed the O2s anyway so now you're set

Already did some retuning, replaced O2's, installed Walbro fuel pump, and installed Nitrous Express wet kit. Just have one minor problem left, it leaked all the damn power steering fluid a little while ago. I wanna take it to the track tomorrow night so I'll see what the problem is tomorrow morning. Hopefully its just the hose or somethin simple to fix. If I get it fixed on time, I will only be running it on motor (and with skinnies mounted on the front this time).
