im a huge sound guy and i miss having my sub in the car.. When i bought the car, i got the bose so i can get the better sound. Well the bose is ok, but the bass is just too blaaa and to me i think doesnt hit hard enough. So my question is, where did you guys run your amp wire from the battery into the car? could u tell me in a short detail of the location and after that location where inside the car the wire would be one through the grommet? a pic would be awesome too.. In my old 01 GP i had to drill a hole into the firewall and add a gromment. Im hoping i dont have to go through that again. thanks guys

its an impala.. i figured since its the same frame and engine that the wires into the firewall would be the same, i hope..

There's a big square pass thru on the passenger side that I know others have used, then run the power wire down the passenger side. I think someone over at NAIOA just did this and posted about it.

Yep, I have my 0 gauge wire run to my amp thru the passenger side grommet.

people have pointed out what wire to splice that goes to the amp in the past. if youre just adding a sub/amp and not redoing the head unit and speakers it might be worth searching the forum to find that info. purple wire im thinking...

I'm sure the 18ga would burn up. If it didn't then they should carry a fire extinguisher for when it does.

i think what he is saying is if you plan to keep your stock HU, then you will need to use one of the existing wiring to splice into for the amp to know when to power on and off.. Not the main amp power which is usually 8 gauge or less going directly to the battery.. On most aftermarket HU, the wire is usually called P-Control which runs back to an amp if you have one..

yes this is what I got!! A converter which converts power from the rear speakers. I have two 12 and a 1000 watt amp. Its not anything that sounds like king kong but it does sound clean crisp and good!

He's talking about the remote turn-on signal wire. Most aftermarket HU have a remote signaling wire that is usually Blue in color. It supplies a low current, 12vDC signal to any descreate device in the signal chain to turn it on. I.E. You amps, crossovers, EQ's, lighting, DSP's, etc.

Most HU installed today have a turn-on/signaling wire from the factory HU. He's saying it's a purple wire.

Despite the confusion, I'd go with a JL cleansweep if you don't want to drop the dime on an aftermarket HU. I love my JL CS and it provides great power and clearer sound that my friend's expensive avic unit. I think its a great value and makes wiring pretty easy.

ok i got the stuff and see the gromment under the passenger side carpet but my next question is, how in the hell did you get your hand down the back of the engine bay to reach it?

You could try lowering the wire down the back of the firewall, then getting underneath the car and reaching up to put it through...if that's an option.
