Corvette Performance - Ls3 a little underrated

My brother has a 08 c6 ls3 A6. All he has done is a hp tune. We were out last night and an 08 Viper GTS pulls up. We B.S. for a while then we decide to go hook them up. Granted he wasn't the best at launching it was a good race. From a 25 mph roll the viper only pulled about 1-2 lengths to 150 mph. Then from a dig they were even to 20 then the vette pulled 1-2 lengths on the viper to 150 mph. I would have to say if the ls3 keeps up with the viper the Zo6 LS7 has to eat its lunch. It was a fun night. Thought I would share with you all.

I ran my bone stock 2009 LS3 A6 the other night and got a personal best of 12.159@115.59. She only had 1300 miles on her and I am just learning how to drive her. These cars have a lot of power!

dam thats sounds like fun
did ya talk to viper owner?
Damn good times for a stock ( run flat tires c6 LS3 ) impressive to say the least.

If these LS3s could launch comparable to their 1/4 mph they would be 11 second cars. Many are running close to 120 mph in the 1/4 mile in good air. The problem is torque management pulls out timing to negative at launch. Additionally they come with a very tight converter. They don't reach peak torque at launch until right at 30 mph. As a comparision my 98 Camaro with a PI 3600 stall reached peak torque around 5 mph.

Ya we know the guy. And ya when we tuned the vette we took out all torque management and it was night and day difference. It scratches the tires on the 1-2 and 2-3 shift. My brother ran it once before the tune and it ran a 12.35 @115.3mph @ 2600 ft DA. So at sea level it would be 11's for sure.

That has to be tuned out. It does make for some much harder shifts although a little hard on the tires and maybe the tranny and drivetrain.

Ya I know this isn't my first rodeo. We removed all torque reduction tables. Max torque table is set to 700+ ft lbs. AFR is leaned out some. Spark tables modified. The works. I have been tuning with hp for a few years.

Your reply was more of a bitch slap than a thank you. Board courtesy can go a long way. :)

no bickering fellow LS1techies! it's all good the LS3 really impresses me as much as my LS1 does! I was hoping to look intho a LS3 motor and tranny swap for my WS6 I wonder what the LS3 will do with long tube headers,Xpipe and catback with a 3600-4000 stall??? and then a nice nasty cam?:D

I don't think he was talking down... if he added a chuckle gif at the end (that) comment it wouldn't have been bad.
Nice run, and good tech advice all around.

The LS3 is unbelievable. I added full exhaust, CAI, and a tune and got the same horsepower as my Big Cam, Full Exhaust, CAI, Tune LS2 GTO. Plus I got about 40rwtq more than the LS2.
Plus they are so light! I saw a post where the owner did a few weight reduction mods and the car weighed a little over 3150lbs.
I can't wait to run into a new Viper or Porsche. :D

Did not mean any disrespect it was more of a sarcastic statement. Im's sorry if you took offense to my statement. But yes I was aware of all the tables. Yes the LS3's are runners as you can see in my sig I run a 13.1 and my bro pulls me like there is no tomorrow. I love ls based motors, to me it doesn't get any better then these things.

Viper police present.
No such thing as an SRT-10 "GTS". They quit calling them GTS back in Gen II (pre-03).
SRT-10 coupe started in '06. These typically run 11.9-12.1 stock, trap around 118-119 mph. Mostly due to crappy gearing (3.08 ratio) and 3400 lb weight. In 2008, they became 600 hp. These 08+ coupes are running low 11s at 128-129 mph. A stock C6 would get raped by an '08+ Viper in the hands of a decent driver.
I'm betting you ran an '06 coupe, as they perform very close to an LS3 Corvette. Either that, or the Viper driver was a pansy with limp wrists.

I am not sure I believe he said gts but I don't know. It looks just like your sig pic of the viper. I know it is an 08. It said 2008 on his 30 day tag. And he told us it was 600 horse. Also I looked at motortrend and for the 2008 viper 600 horse They only had it at 11.7 @ 125. But who knows. I do know he said his gear ratio was a 2.72. If that helps. I don't know a lot about dodge Sorry. Let me know what you think it was All I know is it was an 08. Thanks

I think Vipers come stock with 3.08s.. I don't see why he'd put a 2.72 in there.

Ya I'm not sure what ratio it has. The guy doesn't know to much about it and Yes he was a terrible driver. He also said that it had 600 horse and 600+ torque and it only has like 500+ torque. Is there any way to tell what engine it has? And rear gears? But The vette did kill it off the line. If motortrend only tested it at a 11.7 at sea level and we are at 2500+ ft DA. I could see him only running a 12.2-12.3 here. Plus a bad driver is more like mid to high 12's. His launch style was like a 3k drop and tire smoke. Non the less it was fun.

Even if Motortrend went 11.7 in an '08, they still went 125 mph trap speeds too. That is enough to humiliate an LS3 Corvette. That trap speed is on par with a C6 Z06.
Congrats on beating a crappy driver in a Viper.

I said he was a bad driver. Besides a race is usually won off the line. I know tons of cars here that trap a lot lower then I do and kick my butt. And if you read my first post i said from a roll the viper won.

Since it's going nowhere in a hurry.:punch::engarde:
Line up a LS3 and a pre 08 viper yeah it'll be close
the 08 and newer vipers have some balls that will embarrass most stock C6 Z06s
It just comfirms that this encounter was a drivers race and due to a "limp wristed" driver the race was close, since less skill is involved when roll speeding (not really racing) the outcome of the viper winning is to be expected.
Very cool that your bro and a viper were having some fun and hotroding their cars but i wouldn't hang your hat on beating up new vipers...

Let's breathe a little life back into this thread!!
And the track results are in.....
the Viper managed to scrape off an 11.9@123 I believe, and the C6 an impressive 12.2@117. Only problem was the Viper always slept at the tree, so the C6 took the stripe every time. Here are the pics!

I thought the LS3's were putting up around 375RWHP stock and maybe around 400RWHP with CAI/tune...those are strong numbers for sure.

Jamie , the guy that put the C6 Z06 into the 10's bone stock just put a SRT-10 into the 10's bone stock. Viper was a little quicker and a little faster.

Do not underestimate the power of the LS7. A C6Z can run low 11s off the showroom. There's a guy with drag radials on an otherwise stock Z06 running consistent 10.8s. And that Viper has severe traction problems with all that torque. Plus, it's a manual trans.
You beat the driver, not the car.

:D Jamie can flat out drive !!!
;) The C6 Z06 vs. the 600 hp. 08's & newer Vipers, it comes down to the driver.
Still waiting to get one of the new ACR Viper's on a road course... will see how it compares to the C6 Z06.

That ACR Viper is an animal and was purpously built for the track. Z06 off the showroom is a street car primarily and requires some tweaking to really be track ready compared to the ACR. I would love to have an ACR Viper, but it's out of my budget, so I'll just tweak my Z06.
This is probably what you'd need to compete with an ACR Viper:

:D That would do it... LG knows "track cars" !!!
;) Stock Z06's (both C-5's & C6's) do need a little track preparation...
Corner balance & then an alignment
2 piece rotors and racing brake pads
cooling ducts for front rotors
An extra set of rims and dot "R" tires
Having instructed with Viper Days since 2001...
that should enable an experienced jockey driving a C6 Z06 to be competitive.

;) I haven't driven the new ACR... but from hands-on experience with earlier Vipers...
The Z06 Vettes and the C6 with the LS3/Z51 suspension are much easier to drive fast @ the track.
The Vettes are more forgiving in the twisties with competitive mode/active handling engaged... but still a difficult car (very powerful) for a beginner.
The Mighty Dodge Viper is a beast that when driven by an experienced pilot...
is very quick.
No electronic gizmo's available in the Viper...
to save your A$$ when you get frisky with the throttle...
makes it a tough car for a newbe to learn in on a road course.

The LS3 doesn't have to have the Z51 to be easier. The plain ole non Z51 can handle itself just fine.

I'd take that bet. :thumb:
Put some different tires on your Z and watch it wake up real quick. The runflats don't hook very well. With 0-60 in first gear and with a Z06 putting more power to the ground stock than the LS3 has at the flywheel, it must be tire spin that is skewing your perception.

I havent gotten on it real hard yet but like the above post say-The LS3 is no joke. I walked off from a 2006 M-6 Coupe w/headers etc. when it was stock. I am sure with a tune the new Z will wake up.
