Default What Would You Change

With all the issues these Firebirds have, what would you change if you were a GM engineer?I personally would have metal gears for the headlights, stronger rear end, and better paint on the roof of the hard tops.

Id make em come with subframe connectors stock and have better window motors that are easier to get to when you need a new one. And maybe not put as many pontiac and trans am decals on every part of the car. Interior could use some work as well but I think they got the overall exterior right.

Yah I agree on the metal headlight gears for sure. And a rear end that could handle atleast 500 hp. And definatley ditch the hydrolic clutches, im sick of buying slaves and masters. The cup holder situation is kinda a pain in the *** as well. And last but not least the factory 16's on the trans am and z28, why not 17's? But I love everything else and the body lines are just awesome.

The above + better fit and finish (tighter body gaps), a better shifter and clutch hydraulics, and most importantly no Trans Am would have left the factory without koni single adjustable shocks, easily the best and most underrated mod for these cars (bye bye choppy ride quality, snap oversteer, loose disconnected floaty feeling at speed, axle hop, and twitchy steering and hello BMW-like ride and handling.)

Well so far I've only had to replace the driver window motor, and water pump. So only those two things...

I forgot to mention better slaves on the 98's-00's and a better oil pump.

just shocks, maybe .5" lower or so (considering factory), and metal headlight gears. thats it. everything else is great considering stock power, price range and time.

EDIT: oh and have the hole bigger from the "drill mod" for m6s.

Better window and headlight motors, change dash and door panel material so they don't crack, a rear end that can atleast handle 500lbs of torque, actual true dual exhaust from the factory, opened the engine bay up just alittle so changing the plugs wouldn't kill our arms, standard LS6 intake for those of us who don't have 01-02s, a master and slave cylinder that can actually handle a bit of abuse, a factory remote bleeder that allows flushing fluids a breeze, brake rotors that don't warp over to much braking, make the Hurst shifter standard, and since this is only for ***** and giggles give WS6s and Firehawks the option for a 455ci. LSX.

This is for 3rd gens:

Supportive seats!! Only good ones were Recaros.

TPI units made for the 350 with more consideration given to 5000-5000rpm peak (of course mines modded so it's a bit irrevelant)

Larger front brakes--10.5" is a joke (I have 12" LS1s--so again doesn't matter now)

6 speaker sound systems. With better positioning too

Thats about all I can really complain about....in my book mid to late 3rd gens are pretty perfect.

oh wait....a cup holder!!

Better seats (come on GM! Those seats were overall the same ones from the late 80 to early 90's third gens). Different radio's all together, preferably ones that don't come up with a display that's totally F'd up or display's errors. They could possibly have used the one from the Grand Am. Chrome rings for the vents, Ebony interiors on 98-00 Firebirds replacing the gray.

don't know if you have sat in a 3rd gen lately but 4th gen seats are alot better! (not perfect but....) I have zero lateral suppost and no middle/upper back or neck support.

They are like a lazy-boy chair. I slide around in fast corners like crazy.

Only thing i hate is the window panel cracking when you roll the window down all the way too much
Otherwise...if this is everything they had to do to make a fast car for under 30k then i'm happy

Non pop up headlights, SOME EFFING SPACE under the hood and not have the thing half way under the windshield... mostly so i could put a positive displacemnt blower on it. Interior could use some minor touches that would have made a huge difference. Speedometers that went to 200 like the vettes. Factory torque arm is garbage.

You guys forget that the reason most F-body guys can afford there cars is because GM cut corners, you get vette performance without paying the vette price tag. They had to cut corners somewhere. But yea, it would be cool if the..
-inside door plastic didn't crack
-metal gears for headlights
-and rearend was better
-window motors were better
-konis came standasrd
-hydrualic system
-remote bleeder
-sub frame connectors
-torque arm
-200 mph speedometer
