I'm using a B&M Mega shifter I bought from my buddy. He was using it with his TH400 in a 69 Chevelle SS. Any 4 speed one should work. I just had to buy the shift linkage part where the shift cable gets held to the trans. It's the standard $10 peice that fits TH400/TH350/700R4's.

I just ordered a Hurst Pistol Grip Quarter Stick for a 4l60, for my 4l80 , like said above any four speed shifter will work, But some will be easier to fit than others,Im going to try it in my six speed console first. Ive seen it done on here before.

im running the B & M Pro Rachet, was using it on the turbo 400, just had to pull out a pin and use a diff hole in the arm on the trans-same cable bracket as the 400 used, it had a slot that lined up-the only problem it has, you cant hit neutral perfect w/o lifting the rev lockout-even with the cable disc-gonna pull the shifter, file a little more room and it will be good-i have to use a rachet shifter because of the bench seat, otherwise you bust your knuckles on the dash
most shifters are now designed to fit everything

Guys, the OP is putting the 4l80E into a 69 Chevelle SS, he had a TH400 in there before, so he will need a new shifter.

well, mine is a 69 chevelle-a lot depends on whether you have bucket seats or bench seat-i have a bench seat, so thats why i used the rachet shifter, the stick stays in the same place, doesnt end up hitting the dash-i built a small stand with a little tilt to mount the shifter on, to help reach it, and have full travel on the seat
if you have buckets, you can mount the shifter back farther-you can also use the stock floor shift if you have it, shiftworks makes some stuff for it
kind of comes down to what you like, rachet or gate shifter
not a good pic, but here is how i did mine-i made a bracket under the rug with 4 studs, then my stand sits on it-makes it simple to remove the shifter if needed

He has a bench seat also, Jim. He also made a pedastal to mount it. I can't remember what shifter it was, but I will be over there today to help him work on his snowmobile and see if his shifter can be adjusted to work with the 80.
BTW, did you get your bearings? Brian.
