my taillights are starting to look like poo, is there any way to fix them or is buying another set or vht my only options?

Rip the plastic covers off and clean them up. But you're not telling us if it's inside or outside. If it's outside, some plastic polish may do it, or a buffer and some fine rubbing compound/polish. If it's inside, the refer to my popping the covers off, but it'll be a bit harder due to being concave instead of convex.

I just blacked mine out with VHT and they look great.

If you don't want them to be smoked, try using some 1000 grit wet sand paper. Scuff them up real nice until they aren't shiny any more, wipe 'em down, let 'em dry, and put a few coats of Duplicolor clear coat.

its the inside, the top part is not pressed against the black so the top half looks grayish instead of black.

he is trying to say that the gridwork is seperating from the outer shell...most lt1 tail lights end up this way...i havent heard of a fix

Thats what mine are doing, and it causes condensation to get inside the taillight too, and makes it look foggy, is VHT just some special paint i can buy at autozone or pepboys etc?

There is no fix for this/your problem. VHT is a temporary cover up, I did it on my old lights. It hides the flaws, but that's all it will do for you. The outer lens will still continue separating from the grid, and will eventually completely separate. That's what happened to mine. I like to use this picture as a reference to show what happens over time:



There's really no permanent fix for this. The two pieces of plastic were originally heated up and pressed together to form one piece (aka laminating). Over time they come apart. So unless you have the ability to replicate the original process, then you're SOL. Only other option is to cover it up with VHT for temporary relief, or just buy some new ones.

If ever you have a friend that wrecks a 98+ car, before the insurance company gets it, swap tail lamps. Thats how I got mine for free I do how ever like the LT1 style lamp a lot more, especially at night.

I like the LT1 tail lights better but LS1 lights hold up alot better to the tests of time

you could always get v6 lights (check junkyards, local boards most people don't want anything for em) and black em out too, my buddy did this and I think it turned out good, they look nice at night

The LT1 tail lamps look really cool at night time when they are lit up. How ever, rather have my 98+ then my seperated stock lights. When the lights seperate they look horrible.
