Well I just put my performabuilt level 2 in last night, and come to find out I broke the oil sensor on the back of the block. I want to put a autometer oil pressure gauge in the car now. How do i go about doing this? Should it be electric or mechanical? Sorry if it's a dumb question but im confused about what to do...

And another thing, the oil sensor looks like in gonna be a real pain to replace. anyone have any tips or tricks on replacing it?

I tried puttin the electric gauge sending unit in the plugged hole right by the oil filter but i dont know if i just hooked something up or messed up the sending unit installing it but my gauge never worked. So what i just did was tapped into the wire going to the stock pressure sending unit the one u broke but have yet to start the car yet, just curious if that will work for me?

Go mechanical gauge whenever you can. They are cheaper...more accurate and reliable has been my experience. Ive got a mechanical oil pressure gauge in my car. Just get the gauge and buy an install kit from your local autoparts store. I paid something like $6-$7 for the install kit.

Get ready its a PITA working all the way back there. I forget what size socket it is but its got to be a LONG one so it will go all the way around and down to the bottom. Once you figure out the best angle to get to it, its not bad but its pretty tight. I have to lay across the front nose...my chest rests on the intake while Im doing the good ole reach around.

Think i'd be easier with the trans out?
Im going to be putting in a stall within the next month or so...
so when you take the sensor out you put the install kit in its place?

With the trans out? Yeah it might be...with these cars it pays to have small wrists and forearms..haha.

Your oil pressure sensor now plugs into an elbow that screws into the block. You will unscrew the sensor from the elbow and the install kit comes with several fittings (universal kit). You just use the ones you need...I promise it will make more sense when you have it in front of you. If not post back up when you get it and we'll work through it.

Alright. I think i have it figured out. You unscrew the sensor and put the fitting from the kit in its place correct?
And what i meant by the trans being out is maybe you could get to it from under the car.

Dude, the hardest part is finding a socket, lol. It will take less than 5 minutes to replace if you have the right socket.

I replaced my clutch and oil pressure sensor at the same time. Not to hard to get to it with the tranny out. Its still not a breeze from under the car but, I have to think its easier than the top. I just put in a stock replacement, put some plumber thread tape on the threads and used small channel lock pliers to tighten it. good luck amigo!

i know if you got to napa they have an oil pressure sensor socket in their tools section. it was right by the 02 sensor sockets in my local store

Lol just use the oil pressure port above the oil filter like the 93's. Much easier to reach.

im sorry if i hi jacked the thread but i have to know. i replaced my sending unit not to long ago and and my gauge still shoots all the way up. is the sensor on top of the oil filter also a problem? let me kno thanks. again sorry if i hi jacked the thread alittle

Yes, It's a small plug on the block just above the oil filter. That's what I used when I put the mechanical guage in my 94.

Sounds like the wire going to your sending unit is grounding out somewhere.

does this usually happen i tried looking at it but doesnt seem bad as far as the wire goes
