Default My Moser 9" is leaking at the axle.

Hi guys. I got this rear end from EPP about six months ago. It has seven thousand miles on it so far and right now it's leaking pretty bad. Was wondering where I can get the seal from and if this is a regular thing on these?

I just replaced them on my Moser housing as well.

RAT-6128

Summit Racing sells them by that number, and Ratechmfg.com has them as 6128.

the axle seal is what does the sealing of the gear oil, not the bearing.

exactly. the seal prevents oil (well minimizes at least) from going onto the bearing. The o-ring goes on the outside of the bearing to help further stop oil seepage. It is good to also toss RTV on the bearing / o ring to stop it.....

The inner seal helps, but the bearing will keep it from leaking out. This have been discussed before, Napa bearings take care of the problem. Hell when I called moser for replacement inner seals they told me I didnt really have to use them, even though I still do. Mine are bent to hell in certian areas and mine dont leak thanks to the bearings.

Huh Bearings u say? Well I found the seal at a semi local shop and swapped it out today. I ended up putting a little marine grease in there. Ill drive it around for a few days and if it leaks again ill try that bearing idea. EPP wasn't the shop that built it for me. Both are half way across the country from me. By the time I even thought to call them it was too late in the day lol. Hopefully this fixed it and I can go on to fixing the next thing.

Btw got a picture of this bearing thing ur talking about?

The axle bearings used by both Moser and Stange are complete GACK and its not the brand so much as the type. They use cheapo sealed ball bearing type that are the same junk used with c-clip eliminators. Do yourself a favor and upgrade to taper bearings and you'll never have to worry about them again for the life of the car.

Considering all the seriously fast cars out there running through these crap breaings and the fact of where they leak and how frequent they leak I'm shocked at this point someone hasn't died as a result.

You get what you pay for

It's still leaking. I found the vent tube was a little kinked so I cut it down a bit. Also checked the fluid level and found it extremely high. Drained out about a quart. Hopefully it's good now.

I have these ball bearing ones also. From what I heard, the taper bearings require a different diameter housing ends to use them. I was told this from a local rear end builder. From what he said, they don't like turns, so no more getting sideways and they last about 3000 miles before they leak. I'm in the same boat as probably 90% of people w/ these brand diffs. The info was never offered.......

Wow, this post was brought back from the dead lol....

I put RTV on the outer edge of the bearing, basically wherever the bearing made contact with the retainer/housing. I also put RTV around the inner portion of the press ring to keep oil from getting through the area where the bearing is pressed onto the axle. It was unlikely, but I wanted to be safe than sorry. Haven't had any leaks yet.

Mike
