Default Narrowed rear question... fitment

So, ive been contemplating on how much to narrow my rear and ive been trying to figure things out without purchasing a bunch of wheels to test on. Technically speaking, if you go from a 15x10 7.5bs wheel on a stock rear, to a 15x10 4.5bs wheel on a 3in per side narrowed rear, should you have less clearance issues with the brakes? reason being, it would put the brakes closer to the inside of the wheel, thus moving out of the smallest diameter of the barrel. correct me if i am wrong, i am DAMN sure not a wheel engineer, just theoretically speaking. post up! btw, the wheels i am looking at are centerlines and if possible id like to not swap to drag brakes and stay with stockers. (LT1 brakes). car still sees a bunch of street time

Good question, I am in the same ball park, are you thinking of mini tubbing? The reason i asked is because "SLP 02 SS" took 3" off each side and used a 4.5bs and his wheels were still hitting his offset madman lca and he had to go 5.5bs.. but his is mini tubbed also... Im going 3" on each side but I want to not mini tub if possible..

We go with a 5" backspace wheel. You'll need to either mini-tub or do alot of "hammer-tubbing"-this means cutting your bumpstops off, shaving down your upper spring mount, and beating the front part of you tub in. You'll also need to get some offset lower control arms. The mini-tubs work alot better. These give you 16" of tub from the outside fender lip to the inside of the tub. If you go that route, you can get smaller springs and spring adjusters, which make it easier to adjust ride height in the rear. If you have any other questions, PM me or call me at the shop. Our phone number is 225-673-3533.

found this thread in a search. hope these numbers will help someone.

i have an s60 rear that's narrowed 1" per side, adjustable panhard almost centered pefectly, strano springs, 4/3 shocks, torq thrust m wheels ttm, 17x10.5 in the rear with +44 offset on 315/40/17 sumitomo tires.

originially the tires rubbed and wouldn't spin so i pounded the crap out of my wheel well and gained roughly a minimum of 1/2" between tire and car. and i should gain more with a second round of bfh time. the wheel now spins freely but the tire is still extremely close to the lower control arm. maybe the gap of a sheet of paper while the car was jacked up at the swaybar mount.

i like the look of a tucked wheel and if you want to do what i did, then only shorten your rear by 1/2" and you will fit the ttm's i have or a 17x11 zr1 in a +36 offset with minimal mods including but not limited to pounding the crap out of your wheel well and maybe possibly getting a smaller/offset rear control arms.

but i'm hoping i can get everything to work out with what i have by using an offset lca and have a huge 1" per side wheel tuck. lol.
