New LS1 Owners - Newbie Tech - How much for an LS1 block?

I'm looking to do my first build. How much should I expect to spend and where should I buy it? I'm in Illinois.

Are you looking at a short block or a bare block? Check out texas speed. I've been verry happy with my short block from them.

I see them go for $500 or less sometimes. You should step it up and build an LS2.

I looked at the LS2 block over at texas-speed, you guys recommend the LS2 Aluminum or iron? it's like 1,099 or 749?
