Trans temp gauges install questions Alright guys so i'm thinkng about gettin a trans temp gauge for my 4l60e, I'm just curious if there is a right up on the correct way to install one of these? does the sending unit have to go in the side on the pan? I'm asking cause i dont really want to drain all the trans fluid right now as i don't have money for new fluid.... Any help is appreciated! thank you much!

There shouldn't be a drain plug. You have to start taking the back of the pan off and losen all the bolts to slowly drain the fluid. However im also curious on this install and a tranny cooler install. Any write ups on either?
Also where did you buy your gauge and where are you mounting it?

No theres not.
Theres a drain plug brazed into my stock pan.
First time I took it off I brazed one onto it.
I have my sender spliced into the rubber lower cooler line up front, I used a tee with a 5/16 inverted flare adapter on one side, hose barb to pipe thread on one side, and a reducer bushing and the sender in the last hole.
The tee is grounded for the signal.
No stock lines were cut.
I lost a few drips of fluid installing that.

Frank or any other experts care to verify that this is an acceptable way to install a temp gauge?
I'm going to be doing a PSI gauge and a temp gauge on my new trans. I'm super paranoid about it. I spent $3k while unemployed to fix my car with one of Frank's level 2 and stalls.

You can't do a psi gauge and temp both from that port. You need fluid flow past the sensor.
IIRC and if they don't mind. Frank said before that a temp sensor there will read high because it gets case temp also. (I found this to be true)
TP (trinity) says the sensor can slightly block the flow of fluid.
Most say the pan is the best place for average temps.
