Default Want to go from M6 to A3, Need info.

Ok before anyone says it I read through about 8 pages of the a4 to m6/m6 to a4 thread and got very little info, maybe I missed it but hey Im only human.

So Ive decided that I want to go fast and I want to swap to an A3. I have an '02 M6 Z and Im tired of burning clutch fluid and frying clutches.
What all do I need, material wise, to swap to an A3 other than the tranny of course.
Also if there is a write up for this somewhere Id appreciate a link.
Thanks fellas.

i run a tad over 400rwhp same for tq... and im still on my 4l60e... i would just wait till you get a DD and then do the swap..
i very much want to do the swap to mine.. but i have a buddy that does it and he gets single digit gas mileage.. think about it... at 45mph you will be at like 3k rpms.. thats a joke for MPG..

as soon as i get another car i will be going with a th400... but not before that, just not worth it..

I just did mine a week ago..... This is what I needed or chose to have-

Yank trans mount with TQ mount- 179.00
Hurst pistol grip- 225.00
Speed Inc flexpalte $120.00
B&M cooler 19,000GVW $50
Vig converter 3400- $724.00
Cooler lines- $25.00
Dipstick from madman- Mine came with one but I think like $50.00
Shorten your driveline -th400- Mine was done locally for $100.00
Poly mount to move tq mount- $14.00
I paid about 600.00 for TH400

So I have about $2100 bucks into it. Was it worth it hmmm not totally convinced yet.

i thought a converter for those trannys was MUCH cheaper than 700 bucks, i was under the impression you could pick up a Vig for about 4-500$...

I hate being practical. Ill probably end up going with a built 4l60. What makes thee things so weak? A buddy of mine has the level 2 performabuilt 4l60 and he loved it on his bolt on car.
What are you guys getting for your t56's? Hopefully Ill be able to recoupe most of the cost.

gsxr1k2, thanks for the list, did you have to get an different wiring harness or did you M6 one work?

if your t56 close to stock, and in good shape... you should be able to pull about 1k for it... depending on who needs one when you go to sell..

i dont know what makes them weak... and i dont know anyone who has a built 4l60 personally.. we all go to A3s.. but have something to DD.. and then leave our drag cars for the weekend/strip..

Huh? LOL what wiring? As for the pedals I just pulled the master cylinder and the spring holds the pedal to the floor- and activates the starter switch. That was my wiring.

As far as the converter http://www.speedinc.com/cont.cfm?cid=C0000122

You don't need wiring for a TH350/400 swap. You will need it if you plan on a 4L60E, the E being key as it's a computer contolled trans.

As for the MPG being bad, I have a GTO that weighs 3850lbs. 26" tall tires and 3.46 gears. 3050rpm at 65mph and I average 15mpg combined city and highway. And yes my TH400 billet converter was less than $500 from FTI.
