Default how much oil does the rear hold?

and which kind does everyone recommend using? is that GM additive required?

2 quarts

torsen = synthetic or mineral oil no additive needed

auburn = mineral oil with the additive

I thought only 98s had the Auburn?

Look at your differential, if it has gears it is a Torsen...Springs it is an Auburn.

i haven't torn it apart yet.. i didn't know if there was a vin number code that would tell you or something

Just use regular oil plus additive. No synthetic.

well unfortunately the guy that previously had my car changed all the fluids to synthetic. so do you think anything is messed up because of that?
