went to two local auto part stores and they only had DEX/MERC which they stated meet requirement for DEX I,II and III...I need DEX III, will this be okay?

What brand are you running? I'm debating between Syncromesh, Royal Purple, and Mobile One. I've always used Mobile One products, and have it in the oil, tranny, and rear right night, but I'm thinking of using Sycromesh...I heard the Mobile One tranny fluid(whats in my car right now) is a bit on the thin side for a T-56 fluid...

I'm leaning toward GM Syncromesh, even though I have Mobile One in it, Should help the notchiness

I work for an auto parts store and what we sell for Dex III is called "Premium Automotice Transmission Fluid" Thats just our house brand. We offer several different brands in stock and can get more if requested.
