Default odd whining coming from engine

it won't do it at idle, in fact only when i'm rolling. when i roll in reverse it's the worse, when i go forward it does it a little but mostly only when i turn. i suspect something in the wheel area or the PS pump, but have no way to check it because i can't isolate the problem unless someone rides on my engine while i'm driving, lol. anybody have any clue? it's just a high-pitched hissing/whining noise. hard to describe any better really...

My car made a whine. Like a SC, so I greased the tenson pullies. That wasn't the problem, so I checked the PS pump and it was low. Filled it up and whine went away

My PS fluid was filthy at 60k and made a slight whine when cold. I sucked the PS resevoir out with a turkey baster and put synthetic fluid back in and no noise a year later.

it is definitely coming from the front of the car, like right near the wheel on the driver's side. you can rule out fuel pump or rear end.

i checked the PS fluid and it was quite low. filled it up and the noise is still there. i think it might be my brakes maybe? i think they could be dragging on the rotor? i dunno...i only hear it when the car moves and especially when the tires make more movement than not. and oddly enough when i go in reverse and tap the brakes it is the worst. i don't know but it sounds suspension related. anyone have any ideas?

if you're sitting there at idle and turning the wheel left-right and its not making the sound, i would think the power steering would be fine. otherwise, it sounds like the pumps going out.

haha, nice. well my friends listened to the noise and it's coming from the rear wheel on the driver's side, so it's got to be the brakes i bet. i haven't changed them ever, and have no idea if the owner before me ever changed them either. my car has 70k on it and i bought it with about 35k, so yeah, i'd say they are due...
