Valvetrain Setup - What do you think?
ok, i want to run 1.6 roller rockers, but im trying to be as cost effective about this... What do you think about using springs that come in the LT4 hotcam kit and reuse all the stock components that are currently on my 50,000 mile LT1 (locks, retainers, keepers). I will be going with non self aligning rockers so I will be getting hardened pushrods, and guideplates. I will also get new valve stem seals and be reusing the stock 3/8" studs (i believe that is the corect size). What do you think of this setup?

Sounds good so far, I would strongly recommend getting ARP 7/16" rocker arm studs, I think they are only $40. Then all you have to do is order 7/16" 1.6 rr's instead of 3/8" 1.6 rr's. I hope you are getting full roller rockers and not roller tip rockers. The LT4 springs will work fine for a roller rocker only install, once you slide a cam in it, you'll have to upgrade. I was under the impression that LT4 springs had retainers different from stock, but I'm not sure. Good luck with the install.

Im just going to go with the full roller rockers for now until I can do a cam swap, etc. next winter. I figure that if I have roller rockers now, I can just reuse them once I put a cam in. I'm just using the LT4 springs for the rockers only and STOCK cam. Can anyone else confirm if stock retainers and locks will work with the LT4 springs?

x2 on the 7/16" studs as well. Cheap insurance. Not to mention you have to remove the rocker stud to install the guideplate anyway.

Yes they will work. I did the exact same thing when I first got my car. Not sure why you went with non-sa rockers though. You could have went sa and then not needed guideplates/pushrods. The springs are good to .525" lift and you won't be anywhere near that with the stock cam. I got new locks though, they are really dirt cheap anywhere you look. I can't remember if my LT4 springs came with retainers or not, I am thinking that they did. It was a while ago.

I didn't see his second post, my bad. I thought he wanted to do this as cheap as possible.

haha so it looks like im going to be doing the 7/16" studs as well since I can just reuse all this once I do cam and rework the heads next winter. Anybody have a set of used roller rockers on here? I want 7/16" stud non self aligning, and would like to either go with pro mags or crane golds. Any other suggestions on what rockers to use?

OK what do you guys think of this set of springs and components I found on Summit. How do they compare to the LT4 valve springs? Stronger? Weaker? Will they even work with a stock LT1 without any machining? Thanks!!
