Default MS4 guys come on in, have a few questions about my car

I just have a few questions about your cam experiance as i am just starting to find potential problems with mine.

1) how long of pushrods did you go with. my engine builder said he measured when he ordered mine and that stock lenth was perfect but myt valvetrain is making so much ******* noise i think its wrong. I dont have any oil or temperature problems so im doubting the noise is from lifters or anything like that just ive never heard cmoly prods make so much damn noise. Everything else in the motor should be to stock clearences. Its a new rotating assembly but all to stock measurements and bore/stroke with the exceptiong of honing out for new sleeves to a 347 instead of a 346.

2) what does your car idle at?? mine idle is set to 1200 and i really think its too high. when the car isnt quiet warm all the way it idles around 800-950 and runs around town/off the line so much easier i just think it may be idling to high.

thanks for you help guys its really appprecioated as im getting ready to put a final tune on my car and start racing it again

The noise is normal. I used stock length pushrods when I ran my MS4, and so did a friend of mine who also had an MS4. I think most of the noise is from the extrmely fast ramp of cam profile. It's like it just slams the valves shut really fast, and maybe thats what all that racket is...I could be extremely wrong tho.

idk how long mine are but its extremely loud too. your idle might be set a little high. the first time my car got tuned it was at 800rpms, which i think was low, but now its at 900rpms and seems good there.

If you've got stock heads and gaskets, you may want to try a 7.450" pushrod. And a 1200rpm idle is way too high. Mine settled in right around 900-950.

My heads are milled to 59cc's and I'm using a .040 gasket and my pushrods are around 7.350 with very little sewing machine noise. The car idles nicely at 800 rpm.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions!!!

1) get used to the noise.. our engines are extremely sewing-machine like. u just gota deal with it.
2) you NEED a tune.

you shouldnt have to be idling at 1200 rpm.. how is it idling there? did someone play with the TB?

i know our enginges are extremely loud valvetrain wise. I wasnt so much worried about the noise as making sure it was big cam normal

and the car goes on the dyno friday, the shop that put my motor in wanted to run it on the ruch side to break it in and the idle cam out 1100-1200 which didnt make me happy. but it wasnt me or the tuners choice for that. When it goes for a real tune ill talk to him, he is a good tuner that knows his **** so im sure itll come back down

What valve springs are you running, I bet thats where your noise is. My buddys got the MS4 and he is running dual valve springs and it makes that "sewing machine noise" but thats normal. As for yout Idle, like others have stated thats way too high. Good luck!

With a good tune that cam should idle 950 or so. I have seen them idle lower but that is a good speed to maintain enough vacuum for the brakes.

I'm running 7.35 pushrods with 0.040 gaskets and milled heads. I measured PR length and for it have the same preload on the intake and exhaust it would need a 7.375 PR on the intakes. The exhaust preload is about 0.09 and the intakes are at 0.06. I started with 7.4's and swapping to the shorter 7.35's did quiet it down alot, but it does still tick pretty good. I bought some adjustable rockers so that I can dial my preload in more accurately, but I haven't installed them yet.

theres no way to dtermine what length pushrod you need by guessing...take it to someone who actually knows how to check ... before you are concerned with length u need to use an adjustable pushrod to center the contact patch between the rocker tip and the valve top...once you have the right geometry, then you can figure out what length pushrod you need to achieve desired preload on the lifter...once you have this sorted out the valvetrain wont be as noisy...

I have the MS4 with PRC Stage 1 ls6 heads and stock thickness head gaskets. I have the .660 lift valve springs and stock rockers. My valvetrain is loud as hell. I have 7.4 pushrods. Was told alotta the noise was from the fast ramp rate as well as having stock rockers. I love my setup tho just wish i went bigger now
