At the starter relay or solenoid on the starter? If its the relay. Replace the relay.

Can you just turn VATS off with a laptop? I thought it still could give you a problem even if you program it out. The VATS is a two path security system right? Ignition and fuel?

I am currently bypassing my vats right now is why I asked. I have a similar problem and all of my checking so far has let me to believe as long as the problem is not in the BCM it can be bypassed rather easily.

If it is in the BCM then even bypassing the relay key curcuit will still give you a problem if I understand the system correctly.

i hooked up the laptop last night and turned the vats off but still would not start. from what i have found the pcm grounds the control circuit of the start relay but only after it verifies the trans is in park or neutral. when i run a jumper ground to the starter relay the car will start. so i guess i am going to check the neutral safety switch next.

Is the security light on or flashing? If it's VATS you can't fully program it out, the PCM is only part of it. I'd get a resistor(s) matching your key and plug it into the connector under the dash on the BCM side and see what happens. IIRC the PCM just controls the fuel enable portion.

Here's what my Helms says: "BCM enables the crank circuit to the starter and a signal to the PCM fuel enable circuit (injectors)."

Which side is the BCM side that you plug the resistor into? Is it the female which has black and white wires or the male side that has orange wires?

That yellow and black wire is a ground normally supplied by the BCM-body control module.I would check all the connections there-see if any look bad, loose, burned etc.
