Hey guys, I wrecked my 99 Firebird about 3 months ago and have a pretty big decision to make. I rear-ended a 99 Chevy Tracker and caused about $4500 plus airbags of damage to my car. This was my first car so I would hate to see it go but at the same time dont know if I want to put about $6000 into a car with 154,000 miles. I have until March 1st to either get rid of it or put it away in storage for the next year and save up about $6000 and fix it. What would you guys do?

Here are also a few pics to give you guys an idea of what kind of damage happened:

The pics arent very good but the subframe on the drivers side is crushed back about four inches or so. It is unfortunate because the car has always been a great car that I had zero problems with and was in very good condition inside and out.

V6 Firebird? Get rid of it. There's no sense getting sentimental about a car (Unless there's a legitimate reason, gift, used to be loved one's car, whatever).

When I first got my V6 Firebird, I thought I'd keep it forever. Then I got my Firehawk and never looked back. Move on and get something better, like an LS1.

Ya, I recently bought a 99 Trans Am. That is an awesome car as well, just hate to see the Bird go..

Not worth it IMO. You can get another LS1 bird for that price (or just about).
I know it was your first car, but considering the damage done to it, and mileage, you're better off putting that money towards the T/A.

Let it go, without a doubt. Sucks but there's no way in the world I'd try to save that.

another guy that says let it go. It's not worth your time and money to fix. Is the insurance company taking care of paying you for it? if not keep the car and sell what you can off it or sell it as a parts car and whole.

after fixing total loss cars let this one go.

thats a lot of miles for an older car. you could get something better in the future if you save your cash now and let it go.

Well I put it to you like this, the car in my avatar t boned a semi tractor trailer truck. Yes I was driving it. I bent the passenger frame rail, destoryed the front of the car. The air bag in the steering wheel went of and some other stuff was wrong with it. It was the better part of three months and 6 thousand dollars later made it look new again. It was my first car. I will never let it go. It was a father son project from the day I bought it. So it holds a certian value that can not be bought. So I fixxed it and DD now.

It is really up to you. Depending on how attached you are to the car. I kept mine for good reasons.

Ya, thats my problem with this one. My dad was the original owner of the car, and I immediatly fell in love with it. Then when I was 16 and got my liscence he sold it to me for $3000. I am thinking fo doing the same as you and making it a daily driver.

But RsSean if you remember is the damage done to my car worse then what was done to your Camaro when you wrecked it?

^^Agreed. If it's just your first car and there isn't much of an attachment to it like something Sean said, then I would let it go as well and move on to something better. I hated selling my first Camaro that I worked on for 2 years. It broke my heart to see it go, but, 2 months later I got my WS6.

Part it out, and then let it go.
