Its worth it if you want to take the time to learn how otherwise save your money and have someone that has the software do it for you.
Just can't be half azzed your in or your out kinda thing.

HPTuners since v1.01... there's a Predator on one
of the shelves here somewhere but it's been dark
ever since I got HPTuners and "returned to stock"
for a clean slate.

Hi twitchtwice,

Try the actual EFILive software...

download/install EFILive V7.5 from the downloads page at www.efilive.com

(you can view sample log files and edit sample tune files).

But if you haven't done any tuning before, you may want to do some reading up...

You will also want a wideband O2 sensor (e.g. like the LC-1) for tuning with.

Like Jimmy, I too have a Predator that has been sitting lonely in a dark closet for many years.

Cheers
Joe

FYI, HP Tuners does NOT come with a basic manual. According to the moderators of their forum, the forum itself is the substitute for the manual. Check this thread here:

http://www.hptuners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20775

It took this guy 2.5 months and tons of arguing with HP Tuners employees before he got an answer to his question.... and the answer came from another thread.

I'm going EFI Live....

Our demo's actually walk you through step by step most processes, however this person wanted it written out which I eventually did. Most people like to see physically what they need to do...at least thats how my mind works ie I prefer to play with the software finding shortcuts & such but not everyone thinks that way. In the end we were able to get him the information he needed & all was well. Not much more we can do other than guide him in the right direction

HPTuners software is very good but the best software can’t make tuning easy. I have been tuning my car for several years and I still am unable to quickly retune after major changes. Supposedly, the ideal approach is to start with calibrated fuel injectors and theoretically accurate injector flow tables. Then disable the MAF sensor and log lots of data to create an accurate VE table via speed-density tuning. Once the VE table is reasonable, you can start collecting MAF calibration data. The goal here is to make the MAF calibration closely match the dynamic airflow predicted by the PCM in speed-density mode. This involves data analysis and curve-fitting. All this is a time-consuming and frustrating process. Furthermore, it may not produce a satisfactory result – it may not converge. Your tune may get worse as you proceed. You are then forced to abandon a lot of effort and start over. The easy solution is to “cheat” by simply fudging the injector flow tables or the MAF calibration table to get the AFR between 12:1 and 13:1 at WOT. This is what most "tuners" do and it works quite well.

yeah. well id much rather get something like hp tuners then to just take it somewhere. im more of a hands on kind of person and am a computer wiz. i know that has nothing to do with tuning but im not scared to learn. plus my brother will go half and half with me on hp tuners because he will eventually put an ls motor in his car and will want to use it.

and im hoping on their website there are people there that share their tunes. basic tunes that i can work off of to get an idea of how to work the software, for example, someone with a 2000 ss that has headers and td that i could use to make mine work also, because i know all cars are different.

I use EFILive & am very happy with it. Although, both HPT & EFI Live are good products.
There's a lot to learn as you begin to tune. If you're willing to learn, go for it.
