Default Got my *** kicked by An STI

Met up with this guy at the local Krispy Kreme. Really cool guy, said he had a fully built motor w/ a GT30R turbo. Putting down about 380 on a mustang dyno.

My car has QTP Headers into Moroso Spiralflows dumped, Volant Cold Air Intake, de-baffled WS6 hood, LS6 intake, Ported TB, Untuned.

He is soon going to be running Meth and ill have my 125 shot. Should be fun. The other races are just a few of my buddies messing around.

How reliable is an STi with a turbo swap making that kind of power?

i think the fire chicken needs a stall, your tranny sounded like it shifted really low into the rpm band

Its not just that but it also shifts really slow compared to everyone else's in our group. I was told that it is because either my converter is going out or my line pressure is really low. Luckily I have a ST3500 im getting ready to send to Yank so they can replace the lock-up clutch. Once I get it back it will be going right in along with a tranny tune.

A GT30R and a "fully built motor" sounds like it should be making quite a bit more power than that. But good runs

He didn't beat you too badly, esecially considering what he's got into his car.

My friends STi has pretty bad turbo lag and its bone stock, can't imagine what a GT30r is like. Guess you have to change your driving style and hope you don't ever need a burst of acceleration in a moments notice.

Get a cam and schedule a rematch, he'll be all done

I think by fully built he meant full internals so it could support the turbo. Cause he did say he was stock displacement. That may have been what he meant.

Or you just need to learn how to downshift... it's like driving an R6 compared to an SV1000.

You obviously don't understand what turbo lag is. Which isn't surprising in the least.

You can downshift all you want, you're still going to have a delay from the point at which you go from vacuum to zero vacuum, spool the turbo (larger = longer), and then actually get going.

If you notice in the video the STI was brake-boosting which minimizes lag. Otherwise it may have been a closer race.

In the right gear, turbo lag isn't a huge issue. A GT30R isn't exactly a monstrous turbo. People do GT35Rs on Skittles and don't have a terrible amount of lag.

I guess your definition of "terrible amount" is quite different from mine.

The "size" of a GT30r all depends on your point of reference. On a V8, its tiny. On a 4 banger, its huge.

does not sound bad at all for a mustang dyno and being on pump gas.

It's tough to say if 380whp on that particular dyno is strong without a frame of reference. On my tuner's Mustang dyno an STI will typically put down 215-235whp depending on the year so 380whp is pretty good. Last summer they had a dyno day and I watched a brand new Lamborghini Gallardo put down 325whp and an '05 Dodge Viper put down 375whp.

Yeah the owner of the Lambo looked crushed. He didn't think our jokes exchange rates for Italian HP were too funny. The Viper guy had been their before too and he just wanted to see if he'd put down more than his friend's Zo6.
