Default 160lb injectors and a injector driver box

Well since I can't seem to get an answer in the fueling and injection section (posted thread) I am going to post this over here to see if one of you guys can answer this ? for me.

I read somewhere that you are not supposed to use an AEM injector driver box with 160lb injectors (something to do with the ohms.) I currently have both the AEM injector driver box and 8 160lb injectors... I will be running E85/E98 through these injectors and then for pump gas if I have to resort to that I have a set of 96lb injectors. I just wanna make sure before I install this AEM IDB that it's going to be couture. Either way I am going to have to run this aem box or a resistor for the injectors. Let me know your thoughts! Thanks in advance...

We always go to a BS3 when using that large on an injector, you might try calling AEM about it. Bob

I agree. From everything I have heard, the BS3 unit will give a lot better control with the 160lb injectors.

Since you are running E85 with the box and injectors, I would really get in touch AEM before you just "Either way I am going to have to run this aem box or a resistor for the injectors.". The E85 is going to demand a lot more than normal gas, so I would make sure you have things setup correctly before you just do it.

I have an Acceleronics driver box, been great so far, however I'm not sure about that big of an injector.

My 160's tuned out perfect with E85 and the BS3. I run the base fuel pressure at 35 psi or so. Boost referenced aeromotive regulator.

At what point do you need to run a driver box? I am thinking about using E85 with a TC76 single turbo. I figure I would need 90 lb injectors to do it safely. Will the stock PCM be able to handle that?

I don't mean to high jack your thread. I was thinking about starting a new thread but this one will probably answer my questions.

Thanks.

I just talked to Nate at Nasty. He seems to think 60's would be enough.

I am in the same boat as the OP, E-85, 160# injectors.
I wondered about using the versafueler or the AEM box.
yes I know BS# rules, But another 2k is not going to happen this year

I have 120's and an injector box, although I can not tell you much about it as I am still trying to get mine tuned!

I am using AEM EMS for a tuning device. My brother has has GREAT luck with it and knows how to use it very well. I'm not using the stock computer. AEM EMS can control low impedance injectors but it recommends running the injector driver box that they make... I'm sure if none of you guys have heard of this, then probably what I was hearing was just hear-say...

btw. my bro is running the same injectors that I will be running, in his s r t-4 and is running a resistor setup from a dsm and aem ems. It's working perfect on his car and he's actually going to switch to the aem injector driver box to see if it makes for a more fine tune at idle.

Here is his peon for ***** and giggles- http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g7...628HP557TQ.flv
BTW... It's a completely stock shortblock in this car still (ie. pistons, rods, crank, and all lower bolts...)

I believe 72-75lb/hr are the highest injector they make that are still high impedance, I opted for low impedance 75's with a driver box for ease of tuning and drivability. So in short, if you want over 75's you'll need a driver box.

It's coming along. I swear the damn thing is possessed or the parts I'm putting in it are. Everything i do to it takes 10x longer then it should. seems like there is always a fitment issue... She is very close though. I've gotta wire up the aftermarket goodies, figure out my cooling system as there is fitment issues with my EWP and the crossover pipe. And that "should" be it...

I ran 96's and 160s on my driver box with the stock PCM. No issues.

Just watch your min pulse width clamps in the tune and you'll be fine.

What is the minimum pulse width you'd recommend? Thanks for the advice!

That's a highly gaurded secret.

I can tell you that I have not been able to get my high impedence injectors below 1.8 ms. without an erratic idle and A/F ratio. The low impedence injectors can go lower than this but I'm not sure by how much. But you will need to be less than 1.8 ms. Maybe 1.4 ms.

more like .5 to .7 with 160's and a reasonable base pressure. Results will vary based on the desired idle speed.

You may need to tweak the offsets depending on how the low RPM vs high RPM trims pan out.

I must say, Thank you for posting the info. Not too many people let that kind of info out.
