Default Cherokee SRT8 vs 1999 Trans Am WS7

....In other words, against me! I was just entering the local freeway just to find myself side by side a cool SRT8 Jeep!! I love these since I also own a 2006 Magnum SRT8 and I know just how bad those Jeep can be. We were just testing out waters whe due to traffic he kind of lagged and was left just behind me.

Suddenly the road opened up, no traffic around when I heard the roar of that bad HEMI behind me. I reacted quite slow and punch the TA. He was gaining on me slowly and, apparently he thought, "this sucker is mine"...and got promptly to the left lane (we were on the right) like he would just walked me.

He did and the TA just found that sweet spot after 70mph....kept asking for more so I give...the Jeep stayed at about 3/4 side by side my rear quarter panel....I heard it roaring beside me but could never truly caught me or pass me. We were now at 100-110mph adn I just shut down. He did too, was laughing his *** off as I did! Guess it was good run for him!!

I seriously thought he would pass me like a freight train but it didnt. Why? my guess is, 1. He was stock, 2. The 4wd kills top end some, 3. Aerodynamics like a brick! LOL!

Anyway I had fun, he did too and believe me....maybe I was lucky but those beasts are just a force to be reckon with!!!

5100lbs plus for the Jeep. I picked one up a few weeks ago and just took it to the track last week. Mods are cai, diablo and stat and ran a 12.5 @105 w/ 1.7X 60fts. They are monsters, but after 80mph, drag holds them down.

Where you been man? Still got the Vette? If so, now we both have H/C C6's and modded SRT8's, mine is a bolt on 300 though.

5100? I checked a few sites online and the highest number I saw was 4850.

I read on TBSSowners.com that from a roll the SRT8 and SS are similar. What makes the Jeep so quick is the better shifting 5-speed auto over the SS's ancient 4-speed.

hmm - strange that the TB and SRT are 'close'

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...st+page-2.html
From rest to 60 mph takes only 4.5 seconds, which is about as quick as a BMW M3 and a second quicker than the SS. The Jeep passes 100 mph in 12.0 seconds, 2.6 seconds sooner than the Chevy.

2.6 seconds sounds like a lot to 100 MPH. So much that I'm going to say bullshit.

Nicely done... they haul from a stop but their trap speeds are down a bit from the LS1.
Just as you said .. the 6.1L has a lot of power but the jeeps 4wd and aeros hurt it a lot on the top end, any of the other SRT8 models would have walked on by if he was that close to you.

Didn't get to tell you earlier, but I love the look of your car...those wheels really set it off. And, don't feel bad, I've been "jumped" by awd cars before in my rwd cars, top end and aerodynamics makes up for the AWD 60ft eventually, it all comes down to how much track you have left. Good run!

Oh...for the people with the WS-7 questions...I belive WS-7 refers to the "ram air" cars built during a strike period at a GM plant where they "converted" the base Trans AMs to the WS6 TA. Dealerships outsourced the orders for the WS6 cars to , I belive, Suncoast Creations, they made the aftermarket hood, and cai/air box. So, basically, that's what I've heard. Maybe someone else has some input on the WS7 thingy.

That pretty much sums it up! Except I dont think it was due to a strike. Its just base TA with Ram Air hood.

BTW, my mods are quite simple: Volant CAI, Ported/polished TB, Magnaflow Catback, Badlandz E-cutout, custom made SFC, BMR suspension, KYB adjustable shocks, UMI Panhard and LCA.

Thanks for the props!
