Default LM7 Swap into 95 caprice.

I have a 95 Caprice and It's about time for me to replace the engine. Lt1's or rare and expensive in my area and the only decent one I found was for $700 minus all engine accessories and computer. i have a friend who has a totaled 2002 yukon with the 5.3 vortec engine that he'd sell me for $400 including all accessories, wiring harness and computer. What other parts will be needed for this swap. Can i use my current transmission which is a 4l60e? I'm trying to find out how much this swap will cost me besides the cost of the engine and anything else that i can take from the truck.

B-bodies have a ton of room under the hood, in the past I swapped an LT1 into a 91 olds that had a 5.0 tbi. I am not sure on the oil pan clearance for a truck pan but it is a good possibility that it will fit if not your gonna have to run an F-body pan. Headers you could either run the stock truck manifolds or Headmann may offer something they make some crazy stuff if you just call and ask them, usually stock items that make you wonder why they aren't advertised. After that its just a matter of putting it in and running a bunch of wires. On the wagon I built we actually retained the cars computer and then piggybacked the LT1 Pcm in as well so all the gauges in the dash worked from one and the engine ran off the other. Good luck with the build. Got any pics of the car?

nope not right now but as soon as I find my camera I'll post some. From what I've read most people use the fbody or vette oil pan.

I did some more research on the parts needed for this swap. and so far this is what I've came up with. I can use the truck's wiring harness, it just needs to be customized and reprogrammed. I need custom motor mount brackets, an fbody or cutsom oilpan, and a different set of headers because the truck ones won't fit. What about the accesories from the truck, do I have to change the intake too? I know most people are doing an LQ4 swap in these cars. How much of a difference are these engines on the outside?

You can get the modified F-body oil pan from Street and Performance. PM Me for more details due them not being a sponsor, I can't post the link. You can also get the Motor Mount Adapters from them along with Mid-Length headers. You can keep the accessories, but you'll have to change the intake for clearance reasons. If you can find a High Output F-Body alternator, then scoop that up because it will work with the mount, but has a smaller case. Wiring harness isn't all that bad, I just finished one for a buddy of mine out here in Richmond. Took longer due to work and school, but I just got it done yesterday. PM me if you need some more info man, I'd be happy to help another B-body owner out . Oh and check the sig

Definitely. I get my other tranny this weekend, so I should have it in and fix a few exhaust issues, then its off to the races I'll do before cam/stall and after runs so you can have a comparison.

You should check out Sharp96ss on here. He's done a Procharged/Cammed/LS2/T56 combo into his. Pure sickness and attention to detail is outstanding.

Yes, you can run your stock 4L60E. Might require a spacer to be used on the flexplate, but other than that it shouldn't be any problem. I'm really curious to see how this turns out. Sounds like a great swap.

Hmmn, on second thought, why not bolt a T56 in behind that 5.3?

For the oil pan I would get the moroso one ill get the part # later. And the headers if u don't mind stainless get the ebay fbody ones. But u will have to modify them. And u can keep the 4l60e but there's 2 problems it will go out faster with the 5.3 especially if it has a good amount of miles. And for the 95 60e to work with a obd2 computer if u need to change the pwm and the 3-2 shift solenoid from any 96+4l60e u can get the parts for 50 for both from a sponsor on here.

Why can't the 5.3 stock oilpan be used? Those S&P modified f-body pans only hold 4qts of oil which isn't bad when you're putting the engine in a small frame car, but we're talking a 2 ton heavy Chevy here which is going to up the strain on that engine already and then you're going to have a lead foot on top of that. Make sure the 5.3 pan won't work before you run into bigger problems by suffering from oil starvation.
