Default NEW LED Tail Lights done! All Superflux

****NEW VIDEOS PAGE 4****

I'm sure some of you have seen my old thread where I made some LED tail lights for my camaro. before i used 5mm eBay LEDs and this time I used all superflux LEDs.

here what i did
72 SF LEDs per brake light
32 SF LEDs per turn signal
Running at 12V using voltage regulators
70mA current

In the video it was without the car on so about 11.38V which would be 60mA instead of 70. so the final thing will be even brighter.

now they are just stupid bright it hurts to look at. only a couple pics so far and one video of the brake light. I did the bottom row of 15 LEDs as the running light.

supplies

after cutting and bending board

during soldering

turn signals

inside light

finished boards

video

MORE TO come very soon!

MY EYES ARE BURNING!!

That is freakin' bright man! Nice. How does it compare to stock bulbs when the brakes are on?

How's it look, looking at the entire back of the car?

One thought that came to mind is intersperse standard LEDs in there for running lights and the superflux LEDs for the brakes. That way the whole thing would be lit all the time. But then, maybe the one line looks better... need shots of the whole rear to decide!

ditto, a step by step process + supplies for under $100 for brake lights would be great

they are definitely way brighter than stock bulbs. after looking at them for 2 seconds when i went back in my house i could see the LEDs still. ( like when you look in the sun) lol. it looks really good from behind. ill hopefully get a video when i get back from class today. the whole back of my garage lit up red when i was testing them lol.

i am also redoing my poopy front turn signals i didnt but im waiting til its cold again since its supposed to be nice these next couple days.

i bought
180 red/orange superflux for $45
168 amber superlux for like $25
resistors around $15
zener diodes $5
blank project boards were $20
soldering iron and solder $20
4 voltage regulators $15
4 load resistors $20
Many hours of labor $$$$?
had to use dremel to cut lights apart. (a must)

i think that was it so all that was $165 (not including dremel) I think well worth it considering those god aweful LEDs lights on eBay are around $200 still?? ill get some comparison shots next to a car with regular brake lights once of these days just to show how bright they really are.

Those look really good! 10x better than the last ones that you did.. I really like how you did the 1 line running lights.. You have a wire diagram? Like im not too bad with wiring up LEDs but I don't really know what...

zener diodes
4 voltage regulators
4 load resistors

Those three things do...

One more thing, Are you using white leds behind a red lens or red filtering through red

I am sure that he is using red leds to get the full output of the lights.. With the white going through the red lens it will cause some of the light to not appear.. But with the red light going into a red object the light is absorbed and has a better light output..

correct. the red/orange shine through the lens the best and it is the brightest to the human eye compared to just red. the red/orange arent orange at all just not as deep as normal red.

zener diodes
4 voltage regulators
4 load resistors

Those three things do...
diodes-after hooking up all these LEDs there is feedback which makes my 3rd brake light light up dim all the time when im not braking. the diode hooks up to my brake light wire and stops the feedback so no more dim all the time.

voltage regulators-a must when doing LED tail lights because the cars voltage is fluctuating all the time which can end up in overpowering or underpowering the LEDs. With my 12V regulators, the voltage going to the LEDs is always 12V no matter how high it goes, unless it goes under. so when my car is off the LEDs are only getting 11.38V but thats ok because in the video i posted the car was off anyways.

load resistors-since i am doing all LED everything in my car, changing the thermal flasher to an electric one still doesnt flash the turn signals. the load resistors hook up to the turn signal positive wire and ground and put out the same current a normal filament bulb would so it tricks the system into thinking the bulbs are not burnt out. many people have to use these with cars that dont have a changeable flasher.
