valve cover polishing?

valve cover polishing?
so i have a 97 camaro z28 lt1, and i'm looking to either get polished valve covers or polish my stock valve covers.
i know i could polish them, the only concern would be rather they would rust or not. i've actually already started polishing my stock ones.
idk what kind of material they're made of, but i polished my stock automatic shift stick, and after a few months it started to corrode.
i was thinking i could just polish my stock ones then clear them so that they cannot corrode, would this work?

The problem with clear paint is that it will fade and crack over time. I'd recommend polishing them and then having them clear powdercoated. It will only dull the shine slightly and they will stand up to scratches and such for quite a long time.
